Hercules Graphics Card - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Hercules Graphics Card (HGC) was a mid-1980s computer graphics controller which through its popularity became a de-facto display standard.
Long after its prime, the Hercules card continued to be popular for specialist applications, such as some debuggers and CAD programs, because it could be used to connect a secondary monitor alongside another (colour) graphic adaptor.
The graphic page was hardwired to address '0b000h' — different from the address '0a000h' used by newer (colour) graphic adaptors.

Create a game that doesn't run well unless you've got the latest hardware - which would be a 1.4GHz Athlon machine with a GeForce3 graphics card, at the time of writing - and you annoy all of the people that don't have a Tiny God on their desk.
If the card comes with a lousy cooler on its main chip, or no cooler at all, then higher core speeds may be a problem unless you upgrade the cooler.
This is rather inefficient, because the graphics card is turning digital data into an analogue signal, then the screen's electronics are turning it back into a digital signal for display.

What a card, and with 64mb of on-board SDRAM combined with Nvidia's GeForce2 GTS GPU driving home those hard hitting, fast'n'furious graphics you can just imagine how hard it was to have to take the card out of my machine and give it back to Hercules.
The card also has mounted heat sinks for all the on-board memory chips plus a heat sink with a fan on the actual GPU to keep it nice and cool in those all-too-hot-and-crowded tower cases.
Now you're asking yourself, "What kind of score would a spectacular card like this get?" Well, I was so impressed with the overall performance, speed, and power of the Hercules 3D Prophet II GTS; I felt it earned a score of 94%.
