The eastern boundary of Tryon County was approximately five miles west of the present city of Schenectady, and the county included the western part of the Adirondack Mountains and the area west of the West Branch of the Delaware River.
Herkimer County is in central New York State, northwest of Albany, and east of Syracuse.
In the county the population is spread out with 24.40% under the age of 18, 8.30% from 18 to 24, 26.60% from 25 to 44, 24.00% from 45 to 64, and 16.80% who are 65 years of age or older.

In 1802, Montgomery County was reduced further in size by splitting off a part which was combined with portions of Clinton and Herkimer Counties to form St.
In the county the population is spread out with 19.70% under the age of 18, 5.20% from 18 to 24, 24.20% from 25 to 44, 30.90% from 45 to 64, and 20.00% who are 65 years of age or older.
Hamilton County is bordered on the west by Herkimer County.

He was born in a German colony near the present town of Herkimer, N.Y. He served in the French and Indian War and was appointed (1776) brigadier general in the New York militia.
In 1777 in the Saratoga campaign, Herkimer was leading a relief party to the Americans besieged by General St. Leger at Fort Stanwix when at Oriskany Creek they were ambushed by a force of Loyalists and Native Americans.
Herkimer was mortally wounded, and his force had to retreat, but St. Leger later abandoned his plan to join Burgoyne.

 Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority
Under County Law it is illegal to dump household garbage, construction and demolition debris, tires, appliances, recyclables, or other solid waste on private or public property in any municipality in Oneida and Herkimer Counties.
In order to protect the northern forests and woodlands in Oneida and Herkimer Counties, the New York State Department of Environmental has designated a number of northern townships as DEC Fire Towns.
In 1990, the Oneida County Board of Legislators and the Herkimer County Legislature passed Local Law # 1 which regulates the disposition of solid waste and recyclables in Oneida and Herkimer Counties.

In the late 1980's Oneida and Herkimer Counties, in central New York, created the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Management Authority (Authority) to manage the solid waste generated in the two counties.
Each county also enacted a flow control law directing that all solid waste be disposed of at designated facilities.
According to one of the lawyers involved in the case, the District Court judge refused to rule, despite repeated requests, and even after she was promoted to an appellate judge position.

Harvey H. Lewis was born in Herkimer, January 1, 1819 and died in that place April 9, 1871.
Delia (Hartman) Lewis, maternal grandmother of Miss Leeta Ehle, was born in what was known as German Flats, Herkimer County, February 7, 1826, and died in Mohawk, New York, December 18, 1901.

His father, John Taylor Walrath, was born in the town of Danube, Herkimer County, September 25, 1853, and is now living in Little Falls, where he is connected with D. Burrell & Company as a foreman.
Charlotte Irene Taylor, his wife, was born on February 25, 1833, at Middleport, New York, and was the daughter of Dr. Francis L. and Charlotte Irene (Sternberger) Taylor, the former a graduate of the Fairfield Medical College of Fairfield, New York, and a surgeon in the Union army.
He was born June 8, 1796, and died in the town of Danube, Herkimer County, April 12, 1866.

 121st NY Infantry Regiment during the Civil War - NY Military Museum and Veterans Research Center
Colonel Richard Franchot received authority, July 19, 1862, to recruit this regiment in the counties of Herkimer and Otsego.
It was organized at Herkimer, and there mustered in the service of the United States for three years August 13, 1862.
The three years' men of the 18th Infantry were transferred to it May 10th, those of the 27th, 31st, 16th and 32d Infantry May 215, 26, 30 and 25, 1863, respectively.
