  Herman and Katnip
Herman and Katnip are a duo of cartoon characters (Herman the mouse and Katnip the cat), who have appeared both separately and together in Famous Studios cartoons from 1943 to 1960.
Katnip also had his share of running battles with Buzzy, a singing fl crow in a flat straw hat.
Herman and Katnip and the other original Famous characters were purchased by Harvey Comics in 1958, who continued to promote the characters under the name Harveytoons.

 Meet...Herman and Katnip
Herman was voiced by Arnold Stang, who’s probably best known as the voice of Top Cat, a 1960’s Hanna-Barbera series, while Katnip was voiced by Syd Raymond, who also voiced the similarly dimwitted Baby Huey.
Herman and Katnip cartoons were made for years and except for a cameo appearance by Katnip in “Self Help Huey” on "The Baby Huey Show" in 1995, no new cartoons have been made since 1959.
Despite their presence on TV, Herman and Katnip are not available on any home video compilations except for the short-lived Worldvision tape that circulated in the 80s and the omnipresent public domain tapes.

Don Markstein's Toonopedia: Herman and Katnip
Herman the Mouse had already appeared in a few Noveltoons, as early as 1944, a couple of which teamed him with a rooster named Henry (who went nowhere).
Katnip had made his first appearance with another prey species, Buzzy the Crow.
But both Herman and Katnip made the majority of their appearances with each other.

Herman's voice seems to be based on that of Leo Gorcey of "Bowery Boys" fame.
In a few years, Herman the Mouse would be teamed with a country-bumpkin feline named Katnip in Paramount's answer (a rather lame one) to M-G-M's Tom and Jerry.
I like this one primarily for the reason that for all the nifty little ways Herman the mouse tries to dispose the cat down the well, the cat always averts certain catastrophe, and Herman has to think of a new plan.

THE CINEMA LASER DVD REVIEW-- HARVEYTOONS: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION
Growing up during the 1970's I was exposed to a lot of syndicated television programs that fell off the radar during later decades, only to be rediscovered thanks to specialty cable channels and the DVD format.
I still have vivid memories of watching Harveytoon cartoons featuring the likes of Casper the Friendly Ghost, Little Audrey, Baby Huey and Herman and Katnip after school on one of the local New York television stations.
While these Harveytoons lacked the satiric edge and belly laughs of the Warner Bros. cartoons, they were good-natured fun that could always generate some laughter.

Does anyone have the Herman and Katnip DVD? - Animation Show Forums
Yes, I know it's a cheap crappy release with only about 4 public domain cartoon shorts, but if anyone knows where I might be able to find this disc, I'd still like to track it down.
In fact, the last I saw of the Herman disc was probably about 2 years ago and was offered in poor previewed condition.
Both limits had been exceeded and no sellers had offered these discs within the duration of my order being open for process.

 History of Casper
Founded in 1939 by brothers Alfred, Leon and Robert Harvey, Harvey Comics had enjoyed pinnacle success in the comic book publishing business from the early 1950's through the mid-1970's, publishing comic books based on its own character --Richie Rich, Wendy, the Good Little Witch, Hot Stuff and Little Dot, among many others.
In the early 1950's, the Company had also acquired the entire catalogue of Paramount Pictures' cartoon characters, including Casper, Baby Huey, Herman and Katnip, Buzzy, the Funny Crow, and Little Audrey.
Between the 1950's and 1970's, this group of animated characters enjoyed a popularity that rivaled that of Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse.

DVD review of Harveytoons: Complete Collection, The - DVDTOWN.com
I have mixed feelings about the new "Harveytoons: The Complete Collection" DVD, and I'm sure many fans of the old Casper the Friendly Ghost, Herman and Katnip, Baby Huey, and Little Audrey cartoons will feel the same.
Modern Madcaps topped the list at 108 cartoons, followed by 89 or so Casper cartoons, 39 Herman and Katnip cartoons, 21 Baby Huey cartoons, 19 Little Audrey cartoons, close to a dozen Tommy Tortoise and Moe Hare (who?) cartoons, and around a half-dozen Katnip and Buzzy (who's a crow).
Some of the people who have been talking it up on the internet that there are Richie Rich cartoons on this set, but unless I was taking a bathroom break I flat out missed them.

 Don Markstein's Toonopedia: Famous Studios
It was also the only one they ever did that could reasonably be called original.
Casper was followed by Baby Huey (which closely resembled Warner Bros.' Three Bears, a minor Chuck Jones series) and Herman & Katnip (a clone of MGM's Tom & Jerry).
They even cloned Little Lulu as Little Audrey, apparently figuring it didn't matter what the little girl's name was; they could do just as well with their own, and not have to pay licensing fees.

UGO.COM - HarveyToons: The Complete Collection DVD Review
Saturday mornings have been a haven for cartoons for as long as memory serves, and the animations that populate the early-morning timeslots are just as old.
As the title implies, the HarveyToons DVD box set comes complete with every episode to grace the airwaves, but as a few online reports have suggested, they appear to be the ones from Fox Family's more recent series.
While Casper the Friendly Ghost is by far the most popular and recognizable character, Baby Huey, Little Audrey, Herman and Katnip and the inclusion of Richie Rich turn this set into a cool collection from the Harvey vaults.
