Hermann Maier (December 7, 1972, Altenmarkt) is an Austrian skier who has won four overall World Cup titles (1998, 2000, 2001, 2004), two Olympic gold medals (both in 1998) and three World Championship titles (1999: 2, 2005: 1).
That was what came to mind after Hermann Maier's spectacular crash in Nagano.
Austria's Maier, affectionately nicknamed "Das Monster" and "the Hermanator" by his fans, was the best skier in the world at the time and a heavy gold-medal favorite.
