 hermit's thatch
A standard image of the hermit (or better, the recluse) is of someone driven by social failures to live apart: sullen, resentful, and misanthropic.
Hermits are often lumped into this volatile mix of misanthropes because, as Ryokan the Japanese Zen poet-monk put it of himself, "It's not that I hate people, it's just that I am so very tired of them." But there, perhaps, is the distinction.
For the hermit or solitary, it is not the fine-tuning of the self so much as the disengagement from the world that is the only possible way of refining and changinng for the better.

Smith, I find him to be very dedicated to the notion that the memory of the crusades has been crassly manipulated by modern muslims for the last 100 years...including by Bin Laden, Assad and Saddam.
He is of course correct in pointing out the fallacy of extending crusader motives to current western policies.
I think this movie should portray the Christian Crusaders and the Muslims as birds of a feather...religious extremists who shared the belief that to kill for their religion was their holy duty, that dying in this pursuit would result in martyrdom and rewards aplenty in heaven.

[KS] Only Correct: Margaret Drabble licks her Red Queen wounds in the TLS
American academe, appearing to speak on behalf of and in defence of Korea, declared that The Red Queen was full of crimes, the least of which was a reference to Korea in the eighteenth century as a frozen land and, by implication, a "hermit kingdom".
Nevertheless, the phrase "hermit kingdom" was not to be used, and the publication of my novel could not be approved.
However, it is incorrect to refer to the "hermit kingdom".) My novel, I was told, would probably be greeted with ridicule in the United States, because "educated readers" in the US are aware of issues of multiculturalism, and indeed many universities include a one-year course in non-Western civilization in their degree requirement.

Korea was once nicknamed the "Hermit Kingdom" for its extreme isolation from the outside world, and few Westerners visited before the end of World War II.
As an American, you're falling into the usual American fallacy of assuming that everyone around the globe wants to be American, and that they're creating some kind of "global culture" on that basis.
Mainly, I guess this is cuz the American media doesn't talk much about the cultural exchange between non-American countries --- like, Malaysians who have gone to study in the Middle East, or South Africans emigrating to Hong Kong, or Chinese movies which became successful in former communist countries in Europe.

Market Analysis: Shands Arts in Medicine
Thus, therapists were portrayed as asking patients embarrassing questions and putting them through emotionally draining diagnostic procedures; whereas Arts in Medicine people only used their art in a positive supporting way.
The fallacy here of course is that although therapists must at times employ difficult procedures with patients they presumably do so only when the benefits outweigh the cost; and of course, therapists are better qualified than untrained Arts in Medicine staff, Artists in Residence, or volunteers in delivering positive support through art.
For, Arts in Medicine staff who manage volunteers are usually artists without any of the training in organizational administration, how to deliver their art to patients, how to manage volunteers, or how to manage projects etc., that I would assume most (above specified) therapy graduates obtain in their training.

In some ways Korea is still the “Hermit Kingdom.” This constant cry of how Koreans are one people and of one blood is a constant reminder to Koreans that they are different than the foreigners and it is a tool to support nationalism.
In other words, the presence here of the US and of other foreigners is a way for Koreans to feel superior about themselves, united, and committed to their idea of Korea as a nation.
