Topic: Hero (1992 film)

Hero (1992 film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It was released in the United States on Friday, October 2, 1992.
Hero is about a thief (played by Hoffman) who, after anonymously helping rescue survivors of a plane crash, discovers another man taking credit for his heroic actions.
Mariah Carey originally recorded her #1 hit single, "Hero", for the film but the filmmakers did not think the power ballad was a good fit.

Hero is a clever, funny comedy with food for thought.
Any film that asks questions like these is worth seeing on that basis alone.
Hero also has its humor and a fine performance by Hoffman to recommend it as well.

Marker's film, an astonishingly powerful experiment with word and image, is made from a series of stills and a voice-over narration that tells of experiments carried out on a prisoner in the underground camps to which everyone has been forced after the holocaust of World War III.
The experimental subject (the film suggests this is the narrator himself) is chosen because of his obsessive attachment to an image of the past½a young woman on the quay (la jetée) at Orly Airport when he was young.
The almost constantly present face of the "hero" nonetheless makes me believe or understand that it is in fact the hero who's speaking and that it is the novelist who comes to describe the world according to his subjective science.

Hero is Zhang Yimou's first foray into the martial arts genre, it having been a project he had loosely conceived of well before Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon made martial arts film a legitimate modern art form.
The film's single greatest asset is the rich and wonderful imagery where entire sets, costumes, and even horses are coated in color.
The film depicts the King as an idealist, when many Chinese historians will tell you the real King of Qin who became China's first Emperor, was very much a tyrant responsible for many deaths.

HERO is definitely more commercially oriented, but shares a beauty and philosophical richness with AOT, and a certain melancholy mood.
A large part of this is Yimou's use of bold colours to delineate the different sections of the story (The green, the red, the yellow, the blue, the white).
I had held off watching HERO for months, because as soon as I got the first released DVD (the DVD-5 from Guang Dong Face Ah) it was announced that the extended version of the film would be released in a few weeks.

An international hit that revived film noir and realistic dialogue in film virtually overnight, critics and fans alike soon became worried that the director wouldn’t be able to continue his ongoing streak of cinematic masterpieces.
Quentin may have only directed four films in the past decade, but his omnipresence in the film world has never gone unnoticed, penning some of the best scripts of the 90's and appearing in a number of cameo roles for his Hollywood buddies.
Cast by film pal Rodriguez in both "From Dusk Til Dawn" and "Desperado," and by Adam Sandler in "Little Nicky," Tarantino's best performance to date could be seen during his four episode stint as McKenas Cole on the ABC drama, "Alias," during the first three seasons.

Stephen Frears' Hero is a contemporary re-working of a Frank Capra-styled fable about a two-bit criminal named Bernie (Dustin Hoffman) who saves several passengers from a plane crash and leaves the scene without being identified, leaving only a lost shoe for identification.
One of the passengers happens to be news-reporter Gale (Geena Davis) who is intent on finding her savior, and offers a million dollars to the "hero" of the crashed flight.
Hero manages to be quite funny and satirical while sticking to a story that is essentially a Hollywood fable.
