Hero Wars is the name for the fantasy role-playing game published by Issaries, Inc.
Like RuneQuest, Hero Wars is set in the world of Glorantha but the rules system is designed for more epic games; there is no real relationship between the Runequest game and Hero Wars except for the setting of Glorantha.
Hero Wars uses a system that essentially involves players "betting" on the results of conflicts via an abstract system.

 Hero Wars - Rules Questions
Heroes fighting against a mastery advantage need to make low or no AP bids until they have augmented as far as they can.
Use augments to boost one of the heroes as far as possible - with 4 people augmenting the fifth, they should be able to get ~+10 (assuming the hero also augments himself, otherwise ~+8) to his ability in one round.
A hero with a skill of 17 against a villain with 17w who also has a couple of hero points available is in a stronger position, depending on how the narrator chooses to interpret the 'narrator decides' option of critical vs critical successes, which will be common in such circumstances.

 What Is a Hero?
A hero can be defined as a person who acts in a way that benefits the greater good of her society.
Heroes understand something is missing from their consciousness, struggle until they find what it is, claim it, then share it.
A player hero with unusual qualities, who is working for the greater good of her society, who is searching for new truths and revelations, and who has flaws that must be overcome in order to prevail, will stand a much better chance of becoming a real Hero, than characters lacking these qualities.

RPGnet: The Inside Scoop on Gaming
The Hero Wars rpg was released by Issaries back in 2000 and a problem child from the very beginning.
Hero Wars is the name for the all-new Gloranthan role-playing system [and in this respect successor to the late RuneQuest FRPG], devised by the well-known Robin D. Laws and developed by famous Greg Stafford, as well as Roderick Robertson and Shannon Appel, all which are known to most gamers as well.
Due to the story-telling nature of the Hero Wars rules, the stats itself are short but rather colorful and add to the description of the NPCs, unlike the waste of space as seen in some other RPGs.

The stories of the gods and heroes of Glorantha were always so much larger than a game where you are tramping around like a mercenary-scavenger struggling to get enough clacks to buy a brew.
Hero Wars: Roleplaying in Glorantha (Hero Wars Roleplaying Game, 1101) Review: Glorantha has for years been the richest, most vibrant fantasy world in the gaming scene but, in my opinion, it has been let down by the Runequest system which was good - but not good enough.
It could not cater for the mythic depth of the world, characters who could ride lightning bolts and become the avatars of ancient heroes, dragons the size of mountain ranges and adventures which would revolve not on who was the finest swordsman, but who best embodied his god's virtues and abilities.

Hero Wars Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
Hero Wars has a specific setting, the utterly non-historical fantasy world of Glorantha, which is highly influenced by Scandinavian epics, mid 20th-century fantasy fiction, and classical myth.
Hero Wars reverses this pattern, as a powerful character knows exactly what to do: Heroquest to the Other Side, joining and even influencing the stuff of myth.
Here the goal is laid out in the Narrator's Guide: to form a Hero Band, a group of individuals and their followers who represent a unique solution to the controversies and battles that wrack the land, up to and including bringing an actual godling or god into reality.
