HeroQuest (board game) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The game was based loosely around archetypes of fantasy role-playing games; like tabletop role-playing games, the game itself was actually a game system, allowing the gamemaster (in HeroQuest parliance, "Zargon") to create dungeons of his or her own design using the provided game board, tiles, furnishings and monsters.
Because of the ease of play of the game (a full dungeon can be explored and beaten in as little as an hour, compared to five or longer for a full-blown role-playing game) and its vivid detail work, it is fondly remembered in gamer circles (much like Talisman) and copies of it are jealously hoarded.
HeroQuest, sometimes also written as Hero Quest, is a board game created by Milton Bradley in conjunction with Games Workshop and, set in the Warhammer Fantasy fictional universe.

HeroQuest is a fantasy role-playing game written by Robin D. Laws and published by Issaries, Inc.
Like RuneQuest, HeroQuest is set in Greg Stafford's fantasy world of Glorantha, but the rules system is designed for more epic games; there is no real relationship between the RuneQuest game and HeroQuest except for the setting of Glorantha.

Games Workshop released Warhammer Quest in 1995 which was the same sort of game to Advanced Heroquest although in my opinion it is overall a poorer game.

 Advanced MonsterQuest
The rules system used for this scenario is a modified version of Advanced HeroQuest -- a role-playing/board game put out by Games Workshop in 1989, presently out of print, and a predecessor to Warhammer Quest.
In this fast-paced fantasy role-playing game, up to nine players take on the roles of back-stabbing Dark Elves, bloodthirsty Chaos Warriors, savage Beastmen, scampering Skaven, and other brutish servants of Chaos, defending a dungeon from pesky Heroes in the Old World of the Warhammer Universe.
HeroQuest, Advanced HeroQuest, Warhammer Quest, Warhammer Fantasy Battle, The Old World, Tzeench, Slaanesh, Nurgle, Khorne, Daemonette, and Skaven are trademarks of Games Workshop UK, and their use here does not constitute a challenge to trademark status.

Feminist Game Design [split from Religion in Role-Playing]
One might question my ability to write a game like this, as a white, middle-class, bookish type; my point is that this is not a game -for- minorities, it's a game -for- white, middle-class, bookish types to understand the frustration inherent in trying to get by as a member of certain subcultures.
I mean, you could develop a game that is anti-sexist, anti-racist, and it could just devolve into a hack and slash of nazi kkk chauvinist pigs....which doesn't really teach anybody about anything.
I had this idea of a game that parodies WW and their typical caste systems, with the game based on the creature Human with two seperate castes, Man & Woman.

Normally I'm suspicious of having both "static" rolls and opposed rolls in a game for a variety of reasons, but in this case the target numbers have been jiggered so that it's essentially the same as an opposed roll, only assuming the "opponent" rolled a 7 (average) on 2d6 for the sake of speed.
However, sometimes you will find a game which, while it technically brings nothing new to the table, or at least nothing you haven't seen before in some way, it makes use of those tools in such a well-integrated fashion that it's a different form of innovation.
