Heron Quays is a Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station on the Isle of Dogs in east London.
The station is in Travelcard Zone 2, and is on the Lewisham branch of the DLR, between Canary Wharf and South Quay.
The station was moved 200 metres south (to fit inside the new buildings) and a longer platform was built at this new site to accommodate three-unit trains planned as part of the DLR Capacity Enhancement; the station re-opened in December 2002.

South Quay station opened in 1987, and is a standard DLR phase 1 elevated station, subsequently extended to permit the use of 2 car trains.
Three nearby buildings (the Midland Bank building, South Quay Plaza I and II) were severely damaged (the latter two requiring complete rebuilding whilst the former was beyond economic repair and was demolished).
The station itself was extensively damaged, but both it and the bridge under which the bomb was exploded were reopened within weeks, the latter requiring only cosmetic repairs despite its proximity to the blast.

Projects like South Quay Plaza and East India Dock are a direct consequence of this.
Its symbolic importance was bleakly demonstrated in January 1996, when the IRA planted what was at the time the largest bomb yet seen in England, with almost three tons of explosives.
Later that year, they successfully detonated a slightly smaller bomb at nearby South Quay DLR station, killing two people and destroying the South Quay Plaza development and several nearby buildings.
