Herpes simplex 2 usually establishes latency in the sacral ganglion, a collection of nerves found at the lower base of the spine.
Herpes type 2 is believed to be a painful and dangerous infection that affects people with an “overly active sex life”.
It is estimated that herpes simplex 1 now accounts for as many as 30% of all genital herpes cases in the U.S. and 2-5% of the recurring outbreaks are associated with the herpes type 1 virus.

 Herpes
Herpes is an infection caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV), which resides in the nerve ganglia after initial exposure to the herpes virus.
Because the herpes virus remains dormant in the ganglia, the body is never able to completely eliminate the herpes virus.
When a person with herpes is not experiencing an outbreak, the herpes virus remains dormant in the system at either end of the spinal column.

 Herpes - Urologychannel
Genital herpes is transmitted when an active herpes lesion or its secretion comes into direct contact with a break in the skin or the moist membranes of the mouth, penis, vagina, urethra, anus, or cervix.
Symptoms disappear as the virus retreats to the nerve cells near the sacral region of the spine and becomes latent until reactivated by a trigger.
Though herpes lesions can be seen with the naked eye, a specimen swabbed or scraped from a lesion is cultured and examined with a microscope to distinguish the virus from other disease-causing microorganisms (e.g., syphilis, chancroid).

Herpes Virus - Sexually Transimtted Diseases
Herpes is caused by a virus that may have been dormant in your body for many years.
This virus in its dormant state hides in the nerves at the base of the spine and outbreaks are usually contained to the genital area.
Herpes differs from most sexually transmitted diseases in that it is able to hide dormant in your nerve cells usually at the base of the spine or near the ears, possibly for many years before becoming active.

Herpes is most likely to be spread from the time these first symptoms are noticed until the area is completely healed and the skin looks normal again.
The spreading of genital herpes through inanimate objects, such as soap, towels, clothing, bed sheets, toilet seats, and spa surfaces is highly unlikely because the genital herpes virus cannot live very long outside of the body.
Herpes is not spread through vaginal fluids, blood or semen, or like a flu virus that you can get through the air.

 Herpes Virus
Herpes simplex type II or HSV-2 is the most common sexually transmitted disease in the United States.
The virus may lie dormant inside for long periods of time, until illness, sun exposure, fatigue, stress, or some other factor causes the virus to break out in the open sores again.
Until recently, it was assumed that genital herpes could be transmitted only during a visible outbreak of the disease, but recent research appears to disprove that theory.

Genital herpes is an infection caused by the herpes simplex virus or HSV.
Although some people with herpes report that their outbreaks are brought on by another illness, stress, or having a menstrual period, outbreaks often are not predictable.
Because the genital herpes sores may not be visible to the naked eye, a doctor or other health care worker may have to do several laboratory tests to try to prove that symptoms are caused by the herpes virus.

Herpes simplex is an infection that primarily affects the mouth or genital area.
Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) is usually associated with infections of the lips, mouth, and face.

Both herpes type 1 and herpes type 2 are most contagious during active outbreaks; however the herpes virus can be transmitted during times of viral shedding, when no symptoms of an outbreak are present.
Herpes simplex 1 is the most easily acquired form of herpes and is typically spread through a social kiss such as that of a family member.

 Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV)
The strain HSV-1 of this common virus is also responsible for cold sores, canker sores, and fever blisters that appear on the mouth.
The virus which causes herpes lives in nerve cells at the bottom of the spine, and “creeps” to the surface once in a while to cause sores and blisters.
The herpes virus is easily killed with soap and water, though, so an eye infection can be avoided through stringent hygiene during outbreaks.
