Hersham and Walton Motors (HWM), now an Aston Martin and Volkswagen/Audi dealer, constructed its own racing car in the early 1950s.
Walton is part of the Esher and Walton parliamentary constituency, as of 2005 a safe Conservative seat.
Nine Walton Society Councillors represent Walton on Elmbridge Council, with one representing Walton on Surrey County Council.

Founded by racers George Abecassis and John Heath after the war Hersham and Walton Motors was Britain's top racing team in the early 1950s although most of the racing was done abroad.
For the 1952 season Formula 2 became the World Championship and HWM had new cars again but Moss moved on and HWM took on another newcomer called Peter Collins to race alongside Macklin and Giraud-Cabantous.
HWM tried a 2.5-liter version of the Alta engine but it was not a success and left without a single-seater category in which to run HWM turned to sportscar racing.

Over HWM’s seven-year life as a racing car manufacturer less than two dozen were built, but some 70 per cent of the entire production survives today.

Miniature diecast model of an H.W.M. racing car made in England around 1954 by Meccano Ltd., as part of their "Dinky Toys" series (No. 235).
This model is still fitted with it's original tyres and is decorated with it's original green and silver paint work, and yellow transfer racing number.
H.W.M (Hersham and Walton Motors) was founded by the racing drivers George Abercassis and John Heath after the war and became Britain's top racing team in the early 1950's.

Frère raced for HWM again in 1953: his luck was out this time in Grands Prix (Belgium, where he finished 11th and Switzerland when a connecting rod broke on lap 1) but he did finish a brilliant second in the rain in the Eifelrennen.
Paul also drove at the Nürburgring for HWM that year and in 1953 was 2nd at the Ring in the Eifelrennen, drove a 1500-cc Spyder coupe for Porsche in his Le Mans debut (finishing 15th) and blazed through the Italian countryside in his Mille Miglia Chrysler.

Just about the closest place to where I live in Shepperton, Middlesex that has any motor sport history is the HWM garage just across the River Thames, at New Zealand Avenue, Walton-On-Thames.
HWM was a relatively short-lived team, entering cars from 1946 to 1955 only.
To bring this article up to date, the HWM garage is still in New Zealand Avenue, and is still very much connected to motoring, it being an Audi / Aston Martin Dealership.

Facel Vegas were imported from France by Hersham and Walton Motors in Walton-on-Thames from the late 1950s to the early 1960s.

In 1946 George Abecassis and John Heath bought a garage together and went racing with Alta-engined offset cars as HWM (Hersham & Walton Motors).
Although history sees HWM as little more than a footnote during the early 1950s they carried the banner for British motorsport and were driven by many of the household names of the day.
Single seaters were produced from 1951 and this small team travelled around Europe entering as many races as they could.
