The Transformation to HERSHEYPARK In 1971, the first phase of a five-year redevelopment campaign began the conversion from Hershey Park as a regional amusement park to HERSHEYPARK, one of America's most popular theme parks.
HERSHEYPARK During the 1980's and 1990's The 1980's brought the addition of rides including the Cyclops, Pirat, Wave Swinger, Conestoga, and Timber Rattler.
In 1996, HERSHEYPARK celebrated its 90th operating season with the unveiling of a new one-of-a-kind wooden roller coaster, The Wildcat, named for The Wild Cat at Hershey Park from 1923 to 1946.

Twin Toboggans, Hersheypark's third roller coaster, built in 1972, was removed in 1978.
Three coasters were added to Hersheypark Lightning Racer (2000), Roller Soaker (2002) and Storm Runner (2004), continuing the rapid expansion of the park from the mid-1980s.

It has great scenery, it's clean, it's not too crowded, all the roller coasters are definately worth riding, it has nice music, and it's simply a wonderful amusement park.
The Trailblazer is a short mine train built in one of Hersheypark's many forests.
It's a good ride, but compared to the other, better roller coasters at Hersheypark, this one is pretty bad.

At an amusement park such as Hersheypark, dolphins are obviously not a main attraction, nor are they what draws crowds to your facility.
At Hersheypark, the constant noise from loud thrill rides, noisy visitors, screaming passengers on the nearby Storm Runner coaster, filters, pumps, and a variety of other sources can be overwhelming to such an acoustically-oriented animal.

Dec. 9th, 2004 -- Hersheypark has announced that Turbulence, their previously announced drop coaster, has been cancelled due to the ride manufacturer's refusal to provide the ride as specified in its contract.
The area will be highlighted by the statute of Milton S. Hershey and historic carousel, along with an abundance of new flowering baskets, lush plantings and shade arbors.
Hersheypark is scheduled to open its 2005 operating season on May 7, 2005.

HERSHEY, Pa. (AP) — Hersheypark will add the $19.7 million Boardwalk at Hershey attraction for 2007, with its opening scheduled for Memorial Day weekend.
The opening will be part of a centennial celebration at the park that will include new shows, fireworks displays, beach parties and promotions throughout the 2007 season.
The centerpiece will be the East Coast Waterworks attraction, with 225 feet of bridges, seven slides, two crawl tunnels and 200 water toys such as sprays and dump buckets.

Official U.S. federal and state data on theme park accidents is almost nonexistent.
Four passengers were transported from the scene and I later heard that they were taken to the Hershey Medical Center for treatment.
The other boat passengers were escorted from the area by what appearred to be Hersheypark officials.

A very pregnant Debbi and I went to Hersheypark one Friday evening, having missed going during the 1st Annual Amusement Park Outing.
At least Hersheypark gets credit for keeping the original configuration of the trains and not adding rediculous horse collars to them.
The helix off the lift is a lot of fun and unique, and there are the requisite loops, heartlines and immelman(?), but that's about it.

To any one who has never been to Hersheypark before 1998, this is what Comet Hollow was like without Great Bear.
In 1984, along with the Conestoga, Hersheypark added the Timber Rattler, which was part of the upcoming development of the Pioneer Frontier theme area.
In the 1970's/80's Hersheypark used to have junior bumper cars that were located right underneath the Fender Bender bumper cars building.

 Novelty Monorails-HersheyPark
This is one of the first monorails I ever rode, but in 1996, the executive officers of TMS made the pilgrimage to Hershey and besides the ride on the train, we canvassed the gift shop for monorail related items and repeatedly took rides on the Hershey Wildcat, their then new wooden coaster.
Park employees told me that the now unused station is sometimes put into service for special events staged for groups that are using a nearby building.
Since the thirty one year old monorail is still a popular ride with guests, HersheyPark will probably introduce a new crop of youngsters to monorail travel this summer.
