The licence was awarded to HertBeat FM on 10 February 2000, to run for eight years from the date the service commences broadcasting.
HertBeat FM had lobbied the Radio Authority since 1991, and in 1998 became the first and only group to undertake a trial broadcast in the area.
In addition, HertBeat FM’s focus on locally orientated speech content should broaden listener choice in an area where a large number of commercial radio services are already available.

Living in Herts i feel there's is a radio station missing from the airwaves, most of the station's available in the area are top 40 based basically meaning they don't play a lot of the 80's and 90's, Mercury and Chiltern for example.
Hertfordshire has Hertbeat, Mercury and is part of Chilterns patch on both 97.6 and 96.9.
There is no Ofcom FM working list now, new FM licensing has ceased apart from one for North/Mid Wales next year.

THE RED 5 GROUP LIMITED changed its name on 08/07/05 to The Red Hot Group Limited, still no mention of Shadow Radio Holdings Limited.
Hertbeat FM is now testing a new relay near Hitchin 50 watts vertical on 106.9 co-channel with main transmitter per BDXC Communication.
Isn't the whole point of the new relay to make sure that the 3 towns of the North Hertfordshire connerbation are all able to receive Hertbeat?
