Hertfordshire Constabulary is the Home Office police force responsible for policing the county of Hertfordshire in England.
The Constabulary was founded in 1841, under the County Police Act, 5 years after the Hertford Borough Police and St Albans Borough Police had been formed.
Until 2000, part of Hertfordshire (Hertsmere and part of Broxbourne council areas) were in the Metropolitan Police District and covered by the Metropolitan Police Service.

Hertfordshire Safety Camera Partnership is praising drivers on the M1 for sticking to the speed limit through the roadworks between junctions 10 and 6A.
Hertfordshire County Council introduced the scheme this week (July 10) which will allow certain drivers caught speeding by safety cameras to attend the one day course instead of receiving three penalty points and a £60 fine, or proceeding to court.
Hertfordshire is the eighth authority to sign up to the scheme and it is expected that all police forces in the UK will have signed up in the next two years.

That statement unfortunately overlooks the fact that in April 2000 the area served by the Hertfordshire constabulary grew by a fifth when areas formerly policed by the Metropolitan force, including the whole of my Hertsmere constituency and other places, were added to Hertfordshire.
Hertfordshire was compared, as it should be, with the most similar police forces: Suffolk, Sussex, Thames Valley, Kent and Avon and Somerset, all of which contain a mixture of urban areas, deprived community problems and rural communities that may have both prosperous and deprived areas.
Hertfordshire will receive just over £500,000 from the basic command unit fund, which will strengthen the ability of BCU commanders to work with local authorities on the implementation of crime reduction strategies.

For the whole of February Hertfordshire Constabulary is running a campaign to try to reduce the number of thefts of mobile phones, a figure that has been increasing year on year.
Hertfordshire’s month-long campaign aims to ensure that only genuine thefts are recorded as crimes as well as issuing crime prevention advice as widely as possible to reduce the number of phones being stolen.
Hertfordshire Constabulary wishes to encourage the reporting of crime generally but could prosecute anyone who makes a false report of mobile phone theft (or indeed any crime).
