The next stage for some of the universities will be the Pathfinder project ciniciding with the start of a new group of universities pursuing their e.benchmarking goals.
The notion of flexibility in the SLE does not sit well within a context of measuring inputs, outputs and processes but we would like to suggest that it is an essential element and leave it up to debate as to how we include flexible access in a generic benchmarking framework.

Engineers at the University of Hertfordshire have found a way to comply with car safety regulations almost 10 times faster than traditional methods.
Dr William Tiu from the University’s School of Aerospace, Automotive and Design Engineering has developed software which will allow car manufacturers to meet pedestrian impact requirements in approximately 20 minutes as opposed to the normal time of close to three hours.
He has also developed an animation software which incorporates a photorealistic rendering facility.This can be used to visually enhance the normal crash simulation output from MADYMO for use in accident reconstructions.

An intelligent external solar shading system that reacts with the sun movement to control solar gain throughout the day has been installed at the University of Hertfordshire’s new Learning Resource Centre (LRC).
Developed by Levolux, leaders in the design, manufacture and installation of solar shading solutions, the system provides vital control of light, glare and solar heat gain without affecting outward visibility.
To complete the project, Levolux also provided a ventilation louvre system to plant room areas on the roof including vent louvre turrets.
