For a distributional study of the hesperiidae butterflies (Lepidoptera) of Mexico.
The main purpose in conducting this research was to prepare a publication that would give complete data on the taxonomy, synonymy, and distribution of all the known species of Hesperiidae found to occur in Mexico.
In addition, complete data were obtained on all Mexican Hesperiidae from the British Museum.
The skippers are usually counted as butterflies, but they are somewhat intermediate between the rest of the butterflies and the remaining Lepidoptera, the moths.
Skippers are classified in the superfamily Hesperioidea, which includes only one family, the Hesperiidae.
Nonetheless, the two superfamilies are regarded as sister taxa, so the butterflies collectively form a true clade.
