Skipper (butterfly) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The skippers are usually counted as butterflies, but they are somewhat intermediate between the rest of the butterflies and the remaining Lepidoptera, the moths.
Skippers are classified in the superfamily Hesperioidea, which includes only one family, the Hesperiidae.
Nonetheless, the two superfamilies are regarded as sister taxa, so the butterflies collectively form a true clade.

 Skippers Hesperiidae Butterflies of Cornwall
Skippers are small fast flyers, their darting flight pattern giving them their name.
Skippers belong to the family Hesperiidae and are taken by some authorities to be an intermediate form between moths and butterflies.
This is understandable as skippers do superficially resemble moths but the majority of their characteristics are those of butterflies.
