Heywood Hall, the family seat, was built in the 13th Century and rebuilt in 1611.
The growth of Heywood as a cotton town in the 19th century meant that the chapel was too small and so in 1859 it was pulled down.

In one attack, the teenager, from Gorton, Manchester, threatened a 13-year-old girl with a broken pair of scissors in Foxley Crescent, Droylsden, before sexually assaulting her.
He had bragged about one attack on a teenage girl on several occasions and, in other chats, threatened to attack women he was talking to and made sexual threats against women generally.
Det Supt Steve Heywood, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "These were predatory sexual attacks on young women by a vicious coward, who used weapons to frighten them.

 Man who died saving friend 'was living the dream'
David Taylor, from Bury New Road in Heywood, Greater Manchester, saved his friend's life as a Mercedes A Class sports car headed towards them in the early hours of Monday morning.
But the 24-year-old, who was walking home after a night out, was struck by the car and suffered serious head injuries.
The driver of the sports car has not come forward and Greater Manchester Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the incident.
