Hezekiah Rabala Ochuka, (alias Awour) (July 23, 1953 – July 9, 1985) was Senior Private in the Kenya Air Force, who ruled Kenya for about six hours after planning and executing a coup against president Daniel arap Moi on August 1, 1982.
Ochuka, of the Luo ethnic group, was born in Nyakach, Kisumu District.
On August 1, 1982, Ochuka ruled Kenya for a few hours before escaping to Tanzania when he realized that the coup was failing.

On March 19, 1984, at a court martial in Langata Barracks, Hezekiah Ochuka, a former senior private with the Kenya Air Force (KAF), was sentenced to death for treason.
Ochuka, who was born on July 23, 1953, at Nyakach Division in Kisumu, said in an unsworn defence that he was not aware of any plot to overthrow the Government and if he did he would have alerted his superiors.
Ochuka said that on Sunday, August 2, 1982, at about 3 am, he was asleep at Eastleigh Air Base but was awoken by the alarm.

At midnight on Saturday, August 1, 1982, a group of soldiers from the Kenya Air Force took over the radio station Voice of Kenya and announced that they had overthrown the government.
Hezekiah Ochuka, a Senior Private Grade-I (the second lowest rank in Kenya’s military) ruled Kenya for about six hours before escaping to Tanzania.
After being extradited back to Kenya, he was tried and found guilty for leading the coup and hanged in 1987.

Ochuka's cousin, John Nyakwar Otiya, an employee of the External Telecommunications Corporation (Extelcomms) department, told the court martial that Ochuka had sought his assistance in getting access to vital external telephone equipment.
After the first plot was uncovered, the implicated soldiers in the Kenya Air Force were arrested, the matter handled internally by the armed forces, and the position was "as you were," and life continued.
It was at this juncture that Ochuka and one of his lieutenants fled to Dar es Salaam to evade capture.

The abortive coup was masterminded by a lowly ranked Airforce serviceman, Senior Private Hezekiah Ochuka and was staged mainly by enlisted men in the Airforce.
The attempt was quickly suppressed by Loyalist forces led by the Army, the General Service Unit (GSU) — paramilitary wing of the police — and later the regular police, but not without civilian casualties.
