HF Communication Overview   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
HF is a widely used band for long distance communications ever since the discovery of radio by Marconi and Popov.
HF communications are growing at the moment despite the advent and all-around implementation of cellular and satellite communication systems.
HF is the only way of achieving global communication coverage without using expensive terrestrial and satellite infrastructure.

 Working with HF
HF is *dangerous*, and you should read up on it yourself, not just go on what some fool graduate student has to say.
The salient feature of HF burns is the delayed onset of discomfit and the development of a characteristic white lesion that is excruciatingly painful.
Treatment of HF burns involves copious sluicing with water for at least 15 min followed by (a) immersion in (or application of wet packs of) cold MgSO4, or (b) subcutaneous injection of a 10% solution of calcium gluconate (which gives rapid relief from pain), or (c) surgical excision of the burn lesion.

Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever | CDC Special Pathogens Branch
Ebola hemorrhagic fever (Ebola HF) is a severe, often-fatal disease in humans and nonhuman primates (monkeys, gorillas, and chimpanzees) that has appeared sporadically since its initial recognition in 1976.
Treating patients with Ebola HF during outbreak of the disease in Kikwit, Democratic Republic of the Congo, in 1995.
Diagnosing Ebola HF in an individual who has been infected only a few days is difficult because early symptoms, such as red eyes and a skin rash, are nonspecific to the virus and are seen in other patients with diseases that occur much more frequently.

HF solutions, as well as any corrosive or hazardous substances, can only be used in LAMP during operational hours (9 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday) and requires at all time the presence of a second knowledgeable user (buddy system).
Whenever handling HF, all containers used during the experiment must be very clearly labeled and a warning sign, visible by any user working under the flow hood, must be posted at all time to indicate that the solutions contains HF.
As stipulated earlier HF solutions are considered extremely hazardous because their effects are not immediate and the fluoride ion will penetrate the skin causing destruction of the deep tissue layers and even bone.

 IB >> FCC HF Broadcasting
High Frequency Broadcasting (HF) also known as Shortwave Broadcasting is a radio service licensed by the FCC to operate between 5,950 kHz and 26,100 kHz.
Unlike other broadcasting services, HF broadcasters are authorized frequencies on a seasonal basis, currently two seasons exist, a Summer season and a Winter season.
Due to the nature of the shortwave propagation, these broadcast signals propagate very long distances and are subject to interference from HF stations around the world, as a result, the HF frequency bands are extremely congested (particularly the lower frequency ranges).
