Declaration of Edwin Hickman  20 Apr. 1855  Stokes Co., NC Edwin Hickman was a private in Capt. Absalom Bostick company in the regiment of North Carolina militia commanded by Col. James Martin.
Hickman was one of the 340 men detailed to reinforce Gen. Thomas Sumpter and was with him on the Friday after Gates' defeat, when he was defeated.
Thomas Hickman, a resident of Davidson Co., TN, aged 71 years states:  Thomas was born 15 Oct. 1762 in Albemarle Co., VA. In 1780, while living in Surry Co., NC, he volunteered for a three month tour and was elected ensign in Capt. William Meredith's company.

The county is on the edge of the great iron belt of Hickman County, and abounds in iron ore. In 1833 an attempt was made to develop the iron industry of the county, by Messrs.
All of Humphreys County was granted by the State of North Carolina at the time this was a portion of that State, to survivors of the Continental war, and was afterward farmed out in smaller tracts to the settlers as they arrived from the older States.
Humphreys County is bounded on the north by Houston County, on the east by Dickson and Hickman County, on the south by Perry County and on the west by Benton County, and has an area of 375 square miles.

It is bounded on the north by the State of Kentucky, on the east by Henry County, on the south by Carroll and Gibson Counties, and on the west by Obion County.
The county is 26 miles from north to south, and 24 miles east to west.
At that time the state law required the county seats to be near the center of the county, thus the north-eastward relocation of the Obion County seat called for the northwestern boundary of Weakley County to be changed.

Mahulda Allen Easley, daughter of Thomas William Easley and Sarah Gowen Easley, was born April 21, 1800 in Greenville District, according to "Southern Lineages."  On October 17, 1817 she was married to Charles Bowen in Hickman County, Tennessee.
