 "Hide and Seek" - Salon
It's only as "Hide and Seek" prattles lazily through its protracted climax -- in the midst of all the excitement, you might wish you'd brought some nail clippers or something -- that you begin to realize you should have heeded the urgently ringing bells of the red-herring-o-meter in your head.
Few of the details in "Hide and Seek" add up, and in the end, its spookiest elements dangle limply in the ether, orphans with no good explanation for their existence.

It's unclear whether a January sacrificial theatrical release like Hide and Seek will do much to bolster the composer's status, but on CD it proves to be a solid thriller score that never offends for it's forty-minute plus run time.
Hide and Seek finds the composer firmly planted in Christopher Young Zone, where the orchestra suavely lays down a sense of sophisticated dread with long melodic lines alongside cutting stingers and darkly romantic string textures ("Exploring", "Toy Shrine").

Since John Polson's "Hide and Seek" is a thriller, he finds the ideal new home: A vast frame summer home, with lots of attics and basements and crannies and staircases, on a lakeside that must be jolly enough in the summertime, but is deserted now in the wintertime.
This is a setup for a typical horror film, but for the first hour, at least, "Hide and Seek" feels more like M.
At the beginning of "Hide and Seek," I thought I was going to be interested in the characters all the way to the end, but then the plot went on autopilot.

With the horror thriller ''Hide and Seek," Twentieth Century Fox is supposedly going to the trouble and expense of numbering the final reel and shipping it separately from the rest of the film, plus having security guards hand-deliver the reel to theaters.

 IGN: Hide and Seek Review
Hide and Seek is an insulting entry into the psychological drama genre.
It's predictable, overly dramatic without cause and, worse of all, at a climactic moment near the end of the film, it actually has a character utter the title of the film in an apparent homage to bad lines from '80s action movies.
I guess I can see how Hide and Seek might have looked a little better on paper, but at this current pace, she may want to get some better handlers to find her the right material.
