Arkley is a village in the London Borough of Barnet.
It consists of a long village strung out between Barnet and Stirling Corner roughly centred around the "Gate" pub and is home to one of the oldest windmills in southern England.
Racing driver Graham Hill, who lived locally between Borehamwood and Shenley was killed when his private plane crashed on to Arkley Golf Course on a foggy night in November 1975.

Yes, people living in the avenues around High Barnet Tube station and Barnet College did vote for the CPZ on the basis that you could not park anywhere near your home during the week and it has sucessfully provided a much better environment in these roads for residents.
I totally agree with your two correspondents on the unreasonable increases enforced by Barnet Council without consultation (Exorbitant rise in parking charges is totally unjustified' and 'Permit increases are unfair', Letters, March 4).
We did not vote for it on the basis that it could be used as an additional tool for raising more income in addition to the council tax.
