High Fidelity (novel) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
High Fidelity is a British novel by Nick Hornby, first published (ISBN 0-575-05748-3) in 1995.
It was made into a film in 2000 directed by Stephen Frears and starring John Cusack, Iben Hjejle, Jack Black, Todd Louiso, Tim Robbins, Lisa Bonet, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Joan Cusack, Joelle Carter, and Lili Taylor, and served as the basis for a 2006 Broadway musical of the same name.
The 100th episode of Degrassi: The Next Generation was named 'High Fidelity'.

High fidelity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
High fidelity or hi-fi reproduction is a quality standard that means the reproduction of sound or images is very faithful to the original.
In the 1950s, the term high fidelity began to be used by audio manufacturers as a marketing term to describe records and equipment which were intended to provide faithful sound reproduction.
When high fidelity was limited to monophonic sound reproduction, a realistic approximation to what the listener would experience in a concert hall was limited.

Movie News - 'High Fidelity' Broadway musical to close
High Fidelity's success led to it being turned into a Broadway musical with hopes to recreate the film's success, but after only 11 shows, the musical will be closing its doors.
High Fidelity opened in preview on November 20 and ran a total of 18 previews and 14 shows before doors were closed.
High Fidelity is also not the only musical to have bombed out recently, as the rock music-themed The Times They Are A-Changin', which was set to Bob Dylan songs, lasted for less than a month on Broadway.

 Movie Review: 'High Fidelity'
"High Fidelity," based on the 1995 Nick Hornby novel of the same name, stars the always adaptable John Cusack as Rob Gordon, a former disc jockey and owner of a Chicago record store called Championship Vinyl.
A high school romance is recalled with "Crimson and Clover." Rob rejoices in a bit of good news as Queen's "We Are the Champions" blares.
The novel "High Fidelity" was set in London, but Hornby supposedly told Cusack, "My book's about a lot more than geographics." Especially when the movie rights are being dangled before a first-time novelist, even one who sold 300,000 copies in Britain.

James Sanford reviews High Fidelity   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
The novel's very British attitude (all those suppressed emotions, all those worries about class differences) doesn't survive the journey, and if "High Fidelity" is ultimately about anything, it's about attitude.
"High Fidelity" also scores some laughs with cameos by a ponytailed Tim Robbins (as a Steven Seagal wannabe), Catherine Zeta-Jones (as a chic but bubbleheaded former flame of Rob's) and even Bruce Springsteen, who drops by to offer much-needed advice on affairs of the heart.
If movies were rated on the 100-point scale "American Bandstand" used to use for records, "High Fidelity" would probably score a 50: It doesn't have much of a beat and you can't really dance to it, but it's way better than that new Celine Dion disc.

 Salon: Litchat with Nick Hornby
"High Fidelity" (Riverhead), the popular first novel by British author Nick Hornby, is like reading from an old diary -- at once hilarious and pathetic, the stories of romantic engagements and disengagements are often an embarrassing reminder of who you once were.
But Hornby claims he isn't much like the main character in "High Fidelity," the hapless record store owner Rob Fleming, who is still struggling to grow up at 35.
Irvine Welsh is hip for all sorts of reasons, but with "High Fidelity" I can't see it really, apart from that it has some rock and roll in it.

 HIGH FIDELITY
Fidelity is an unqualified hit and, although it’s way too early to be saying this, might be one of the better films you’ll see all year.
Fidelity was directed by Stephen Frears (The Hi-Lo Country) and adapted from Hornby’s novel by Cusack and his Grosse Pointe Blank collaborators D.V. DeVincentis and Steve Pink, as well as ConAir’s Scott Rosenberg.
Their film is obviously a carefully crafted labor of love that should be a big hit with everyone, especially if you were born in the 1960s or ‘70s, still own a turntable or ever worked in a record store.

Similarly, "High Fidelity" is no Wicker Park wannabe hipster movie, it's a deft charmer of a romantic comedy.
I talked to Cusack about "High Fidelity" last week in a suite in a Michigan Avenue luxury hotel, facing west, past the river, toward the true, material Wicker Park, obscured in the fuzzy haze of spring.

 Glemalure - High Fidelity
Transplanted from England to the not-so-mean streets of Chicago, the screen adaptation of Nick Hornby's cult-classic novel High Fidelity emerges unscathed from its Americanisation, idiosyncrasies intact, thanks to John Cusack's inimitable charm and a nimble, nifty screenplay (co-written by Cusack).
Low on plot and high on self-discovery, High Fidelity takes a good 30 minutes or so to find its groove (not unlike Cusack's Grosse Pointe Blank), but once it does, it settles into it comfortably and builds a surprisingly touching momentum.
Ably directed by Stephen Frears (Dangerous Liaisons), High Fidelity features a notable supporting cast of the women in Rob's life, including the striking, Danish-born Hjejle, Lisa Bonet as a sultry singer/songwriter, and the triumphant triumvirate of Lili Taylor, Joelle Carter, and Catherine Zeta Jones as Rob's ex-girlfriends.

And besides that, "High Fidelity," like the book it's based on, is essentially a story about the overwhelming power of pop culture -- not just the way it can illuminate every element of our existence but also the way it can cloud our judgment.
"High Fidelity" is less a story with a real plot than a snapshot of that hazy, miserable time just after a breakup, when things are horrible, when you realize that everything about you needs to be reassessed and when, if you're that kind of person, you need to play a lot of records.
