The Pennine Way passes by the southern side of High Force; although the falls are visible from the trail, the connection by foot is indirect, for the nearest bridge over the river is at Holwich Head, about 1 kilometre (0.6 mile) downstream of the falls.
Low Force is about 2.5 kilometres (1.6 miles) downstream, whilst Cauldron Snout is some 10 kilometres (6 miles) upstream.

WASHINGTON — The Air Force is eyeing a seldom-used region of the Earth's atmosphere called "near space" for communications and intelligence-gathering with one of the oldest types of aircraft — balloons.
The Air Force is considering seeking up to $15 million on near-space operations and research in its 2007 budget, officials said.
In addition, the Air Force regards near-space altitudes a part of a country's sovereign air space, unlike orbital space that is open to all, according to officials at Air Force Space Command.

Natural World/Creepy Crawlies/High G-Force Insect   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
In our natural environment we all experience a constant force of 1 G — this is the gravitational pull towards the centre of the earth.
In certain everyday situations, however, we experience alterations in G-force — for example when an elevator accelerates upwards passengers will briefly experience a force of greater than 1 G. Conversely, when the elevator accelerates downwards passengers will feel a force of less than the usual 1 G — resulting in a momentary feeling of lightness.
With training, fighter pilots can withstand up to 5 or 6 Gs for just a few seconds — but if this force is applied for any longer it will result in loss of consciousness or even death.

High Sensitivity Force Sensors in Sensors and Transducers Magazine
Sensors feature ICP® voltage output, and have an extremely high sensitivity of 2,200 mV/lb (500 mV/N) at a force range of 2.2 lb (10 N) in compression and 1 lb (4.5 N) in tension.
ICP® force sensors contain built-in microelectronics to convert the high impedance charge to a low impedance voltage, which eliminates the noise associated with charge amplifiers and the required high impedance cables.
Product testing applications include spring force and hysteresis, electrical contact and relay actuation forces, computer keyboard finger force and touch screen push force.

Design method for high-force electrorheological dampers
While Newtonian viscous stresses are relatively field independent, dissipative forces in ER dampers are adjusted by varying the field-dependent yield stress.
In many cases, it is desirable for the ER damper to not only have high force capacities in a compact geometry, but also have a large range of controllable forces.
Within overall size constraints, a tradeoff between the field-controllable force range and force magnitude is controlled by the format of the ducts.
