  Profile: Skeptic
In 1969 I was living in Chicago, and was a junior in high school.
After the movie, I remember adding up the years and thinking how lucky I was, that I would be there to experience the wonders of the world in 2001 painted so vividly by Stanley Kubrick in that movie.
In retrospect, the vision in the movie would have been a better blueprint for NASA than the path that they followed, and better than the path they are on today.

But what makes ''1969'' special is its subtlety, in recognizing the differences in the way we reacted to news, gestures, comments in 1969 as compared to now.
It is actually a pretty powerful anti-war movie, with fine acting from Winona Ryder, Keifer Sutherland, and Robert Downey, Jr., who were big stars in the '80s and I am surprised this was not more of a box office hit for their presence in the cast.
It was clearly a classic 80's teen movie, filled w/ all the classic 80's teen movie cliche's of romance and coming of age.

High School II (1994) - Overview - MSN Movies
Synopsis: In High School (1969), Frederick Wiseman observed conflicts in the minefield of a lower-middle-class secondary school where administrators and teachers were more concerned with discipline than stretching minds.
For a follow-up 25 years later with High School II (1994), Wiseman visited New York's Spanish Harlem where he took his camera into classrooms at Central Park East Secondary School [CPESS], a successful alternative high school with a predominantly fl and Hispanic student body.
His first foray into secondary education, 1969's High School, was set at Northeast High in suburban Philadelphia, where he found stultifying conformity and bored students, with the tumult of that era a largely distant backdrop.

While she was alive the magazines she was featured in were movie, TV, gossip, and scandal mags, but after her sensational murder, the true crime detective mags and sleazy tabloids started to feature her posthumously.
Tate’s early movies having been made and released in Europe got her more magazine coverage there than was the case in America.

In the precedent-setting Supreme Court decision in the case of Tinker vs. Des Moines (School District) in 1969, the court decided that school administrators must be able to show "the existence of facts which might reasonably lead school officials to forecast substantial disruption" before taking disciplinary action against what a student expresses on school grounds.

If we can't build new schools, we "can create schools-within-schools, academic houses, and make sure that every high school student has an advisor for all four years that the student can count on all the time," the education secretary said in his Sept. 15 annual back-to-school address.
My high school had over 3,000 students (in ONLY THREE GRADES!!!) and there were 1,100 in my graduating class (the Class of 1969 of Parma High) and there were very few problems in the school like there are at so many schools today.
Also, there were many other high schools at that time that were almost that big (like Valley Forge, Normandy, Euclid, Mentor, etc.) and there were almost no violence problems like there are today; and most students had no problems learning what they were supposed to learn no matter what the size of the classes were.

In writing this curriculum unit, I hope to provide both an exciting and challenging format for the teachers of the dance arts on the high school level.

High Noon is a film about coping with dangerous bullies, about terror and its effect upon a community.
The context gives added meaning to the cowardly rationalizations of the townspeople as they hide from Wil or argue openly that both he and they would be better off if Wil would just leave town.
For me, one of the most fascinating aspects of High Noon is that it occurs, roughly, in real time, heightening our sense of approaching the conflict.
