Oxford is a city and local government district in Oxfordshire, England, with a population of 134,248 (2001 census).
Oxford is twinned with Bonn in Germany, Grenoble in France, León in Nicaragua, Leiden in the Netherlands, and Perm in Russia.
Oxford's Town Hall was built by Henry T. Hare, the foundation stone was laid on 6 July 1893 and opened by the future King Edward VII on 12 May 1897.

Oxford is located some 55 miles (90 Km) north west of London and 70 miles (110 Km) south east of Birmingham, and the M40 motorway between London and Birmingham passes within seven miles of Oxford.
Oxford and the surrounding area is home to an unusual number of highly academic schools, many of which receive pupils from around the world.

I was sitting in St. Mary’s Church on High Street in Oxford reading the history of the church.
Then we walked a very few paces to the door of one of the oldest colleges at Oxford, and the curate pointed to the charring on the door and said it had resulted from the same fire that burned the three martyrs hundreds of years ago.
Inevitably, their dresses are stylish and of high quality, their dressy shoes match their handbags and gloves, and they are always wearing hats.
