Topic: High low split

High-low split - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
High-low split games are those in which the pot is divided between the player with the best traditional hand (called the high hand) and the player with the low hand.
Especially when using the ace-to-five low method, it is possible for one player to have both the low hand and the high hand, and therefore win all of the pot (called "scooping," "hogging" the pot, or "going pig").
In high-low split games where each player is dealt more than five cards, each player chooses five of his cards to play as his high hand, and/or five of his cards to play as his low hand.

The Ultimate Low hand (poker) - American History Information Guide and Reference
There are three common variations on this idea, differing in whether aces are treated as high cards or low cards, and whether or not straights and flushes are used.
Some games are played high-low split, where the player with the best traditional poker hand (called the high hand) splits the pot with the best low hand (by one of the methods above).
Low hands tie more frequently than high hands, especially in community card games, so it is not uncommon for such a hand to win a small fraction of a poker pot.

Poker/High card by suit - Wikipedia
In games such as Seven-card stud, where the player with the lowest-ranking face-up card is required to open the first betting round for a minimal amount, ties can be broken by suit.
In /High-low split games, or when two players' hands tie, the pot must be split evenly between them.
When there is an odd amount of money in the pot that can't be split evenly, the odd low-denomination chip can be given to the player whose hand contains the high card by suit.

Branch processing unit with target cache using low/high banking to support split prefetching - Patent 5732243   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
For each prefetch request that includes both low and high block addresses, respective banks of the target cache are successively accessed based on the state of the bank select bit, such that the low block address is used to access one bank and the high block address is used to access the other bank.
The processor of claim 1 wherein each prefetch request is separated into two split blocks, and wherein the associated low and high block addresses differ in bit position (3) where the low block address may be designated by either a (1 or 0) is that bank select bit position.
Split prefetching is particularly advantageous in prefetching target addresses where the target would be in the High (second) Block of a 16-byte-aligned prefetch request--the prefetch request can start with the 8-byte-aligned Block containing the target address.

Again, while I haven't played in hundreds of hours of Stud High/Low split in my life, Zee's information has been valuable when I have played, seem to be successful, and correspond well to general poker theory.
For example, the author discusses situations where one has a lock low, but one knows another lock is out there, and the pot is so small that it is the right play to throw away one's hand.
I believe there is probably enough extra information that could be written about these game to justify expanding each section and splitting this volume into two separate books, but I recommend it as it is now nonetheless.

This is because if the flop gives you a low or a draw to a low, other players with ace-trey or deuce-trey will draw to the second and third nuts.
And when the low does come, you may have to split the low half, plus there will be fewer people to collect from.
But if the other low card with the ace is not a deuce or a trey, you should throw the hand away.
