High-pass filter - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A high-pass filter is the opposite of a low-pass filter.
A high-pass filter is a filter that passes high frequencies well, but attenuates (or reduces) frequencies lower than the cutoff frequency.
Of course, the meanings of 'low' and 'high' frequencies are relative to the cutoff frequency chosen by the filter designer.

High Pass - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The High Pass was first created before the First Age by Oromë the Vala, in order to allow for a crossing of the mountains by the Eldar.
In the Second Age the High Pass was used by the army of Gil-galad and Elendil when they marched to Mordor in the War of the Last Alliance of Elves and Men.
Later in the First Age the High Pass was used by the Dwarves, who connected their roads (the Great East Road and the Men-i-Naugrim through Mirkwood) with it.

High Pass filter ensures that all the edges of the texture are roughly of the same luminosity.
The most common ones, the Low Pass and the High Pass filters remove certain frequencies from the signal, while the rest of the signal passes through; this is where the part pass in the name comes from.
Technically, the High Pass filter is the opposite of Gaussian Blur: it removes large, blurred low frequency details, while small sharp high frequency details remain.

 Medcyclopaedia - High pass filter
In Doppler ultrasound, a high-pass filter ("wall filter") is used to remove the strong signals from slowly moving tissues such as vessel walls and cardiac leaflets.
In spatial filtering of digital images (see filtering of images), enhancement of the higher spatial frequencies will produce better defined edges and more noise in the images ("high-pass spatial filtering").
When measuring blood flow velocity in low velocity vessels such as veins, the high pass filter should be adjusted to its minimum value.

 Performs a low-pass, high-pass, or median filter
Because a median filter requires that a histogram be generated for each kernel passed over the input image, the processing time is much greater than for a high- or low-pass filter.
Low-pass filters and median filters are used most often for noise suppression or smoothing, while high-pass filters are typically used for image enhancement.
The boxcar filtered image is created by passing a user-specified window (called a kernel or box) over an input image on a pixel-by-pixel basis.

 High Pass Filter
A high pass filter is used in digital image processing to remove or suppress the low frequency component, resulting in a sharpened image.
High pass filters are often used in conjunction with low pass filters.
For example, the image may be smoothed using a low pass filter, then a high pass filter can be applied to sharpen the image, therefore preserving boundary detail.

 High-pass filter
A bandpass filter passes a narrow band of frequencies through a circuit and attenuates all other frequencies that are higher or lower than the desired band of frequencies.
Since the purpose of the band-reject filter is directly opposite to that of a bandpass filter, the relative positions of the resonant circuits in the filter are interchanged.
At point P most of the high-frequency energy is passed on to the load by the capacitor, and most of the low-frequency energy is shunted back to the source through the inductor.

Electron energy distribution curves (differentiated) from a tungsten sample measured with the energy filter using a UV lamp and synchrotron radiation (SR) with hn = 150 eV; the W 4f levels are clearly resolved.
This is of particular importance for chemical and magnetic imaging in synchrotron applications, where the achievable resolution is reduced due to the "unfocused" contribution of high energy electrons.

 GIMP - Sketch Effect
High pass filtering means that we filter away the low frequencies of something, and let the high frequency bands pass.
You need to experiment to find good values, but roughly speaking one can say that the larger the radius, the wider the high pass filter's frequency response, and the "fatter" the lines in the final sketch.
Now we have a low pass filtered version of our image; all gradients and no detail.

Intro: Part 1: High Pass filter — frequency response The aim of this experiment is to find how the input signal changes as the frequency of the input signal is changed and in particular to find the “half power point” and also the phase shift at this frequency.
Filters are circuits that allow certain signals to pass through the circuit, but prevent other types of signals from passing through the circuit.
Power supplies use low pass filters with a very low cutoff frequency to pass DC (a frequency of zero) and reject any other noise that might be present.

This article describes a high pass audio filter for an external speaker on an FM transceiver, particularly for suppression of CTCSS tones.
Common practice in these parts is to use 123Hz, which I would guess is a compromise between audibility of the tone and audio intermodulation problems caused when certain types of modulators are driven to very high modulation indexes.

If it's consistent and precise, you may want to to use a notch-reject filter instead of a high-pass filter, since a notch-reject filter can be constructed to have minimal phase distortion for anything other than the frequency of interest.
If they are well-chosen, the filter will have very sharp attenuation at the desired reject frequency and minimal effect at any other.
The constants const1, const2, const3, and const4 should be chosen to yield the desired filter characteristics.
