High fidelity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
High fidelity or hi-fi reproduction is a quality standard that means the reproduction of sound or images is very faithful to the original.
When high fidelity was limited to monophonic sound reproduction, a realistic approximation to what the listener would experience in a concert hall was limited.
In the 1950s, the term high fidelity began to be used by audio manufacturers as a marketing term to describe records and equipment which were intended to provide faithful sound reproduction.

 High Fidelity: Cinephiles Movie Review
High Fidelity is directed by Stephen Frears (The High-Lo Country, Dangerous Liaisons) and is written for the screen by D.V. DeVincentis, Steve Pink, Scott Rosenberg and John Cusack, from the novel by Nick Hornby.
High Fidelity offers a strictly male point of view by depicting a world where every male character --troubled or not-- is nonetheless a funny character, and where all female characters are either too angered, too hurt or too indifferent, yet always serious.
High Fidelity offers a comedic look at its heartbroken main character and narrator, whose recent breakup forces him to rethink his previous failed romances and to confront the fear of commitment.

 Salon: Litchat with Nick Hornby
"High Fidelity" (Riverhead), the popular first novel by British author Nick Hornby, is like reading from an old diary -- at once hilarious and pathetic, the stories of romantic engagements and disengagements are often an embarrassing reminder of who you once were.
Irvine Welsh is hip for all sorts of reasons, but with "High Fidelity" I can't see it really, apart from that it has some rock and roll in it.
But Hornby claims he isn't much like the main character in "High Fidelity," the hapless record store owner Rob Fleming, who is still struggling to grow up at 35.

High or Low Fidelity, Paper or Computer
We investigated the affect of fidelity on user testing because if usability testing on low-fidelity prototypes is equally good to testing on high fidelity prototypes, then cheap, quick low-fidelity prototyping techniques could be employed through more of the design process.
Previous studies of usability testing combined medium and fidelity by testing high-fidelity computer prototypes against low-fidelity paper or computer prototypes, but they did not address all combinations of paper and computer media and low and high fidelities.
Fidelity describes how easily prototypes can be distinguished from the final product and can be manipulated to emphasize aspects of the design.

Salon Arts & Entertainment "High Fidelity"
"High Fidelity" is less a story with a real plot than a snapshot of that hazy, miserable time just after a breakup, when things are horrible, when you realize that everything about you needs to be reassessed and when, if you're that kind of person, you need to play a lot of records.
And besides that, "High Fidelity," like the book it's based on, is essentially a story about the overwhelming power of pop culture -- not just the way it can illuminate every element of our existence but also the way it can cloud our judgment.
When a book develops a pop-culture following the way Nick Hornby's "High Fidelity" did, you can bet there are going to be thousands of people out there holding their breath, hoping that the movie version will somehow measure up to the source material.

Flak Magazine: Review of High Fidelity, 04-03-00
High Fidelity is his new film, and it's a modern tale of romance and music set in the heart of good-ol' "roll up your working-class sleeves and scratch that record" Chicago.
High Fidelity ostensibly turns on the following premise: Rob Gordon (Cusack) is the owner of a small, struggling record store, employing Dick (Todd Louiso) and Barry (Jack Black), two young men blessed with far more knowledge of music than social acumen.
The songs of High Fidelity serve as the real engine for this somewhat conventional but pleasantly-nuanced wallow through a man's breakup and the ensuing self-analysis, played across a personal backdrop of insecurity, masculine skittishness and poor judgment.

 Essay by John Busenitz
Since we do not have anything close to total high fidelity, we have little other choice but enjoyment, which for audiophiles typically means a reproduction subjectively faithful to the original.
There is no real high fidelity for total systems anyway, so spending your dough on something that doesn't increase your enjoyment is a waste of money.
Absolute perfect fidelity is not possible, because the act of measuring something always changes that which we are measuring (or recording).
