Highgate tube station is a London Underground station on Archway Road near to Highgate in north London.
The station is on the High Barnet branch of the Northern Line, between Archway and East Finchley stations, and is in Travelcard Zone 3.
The surface station, which lies in an open cutting between two tunnels, was rebuilt at the same time; the whole complex was designed by Charles Holden.

The station building on the original platform has been converted into a house and is occupied.
The station was temporarily closed between 20.10.1951 - 7.1.1952.
In 1935 there was a proposal to incorporate the line from Finsbury Park to Alexandra Palace into the London Transport network as part of the Northern Line and the station was rebuilt in 1940/41 as part of this scheme.

Highgate Liberal Democrat councillor Melanie Simpson has written to the Council asking for urgent action to ensure that a steep pathway between Wood Lane and Priory Gardens (to Highgate tube station) is regularly cleared of leaves and debris.
It is particularly steep and is used by the hundreds of people every day as a route to Highgate tube station.
Cllr Simpson is concerned that the Council and the station authorities will not take this issue seriously until someone has a serious accident on the path.

Sneakily, the Highgate tube station is a long way from Highgate Village — and the village is up a very steep hill.
We then walked to the tube station and had a sandwich at Pret a Manger (roast beef for me, BLT for Mom); then to Boots for some browsing around; then visited the food hall at Marks and Spencer to buy a few groceries.

At the end of a residential avenue, and next to Highgate Tube station and the Archway Road, this late Victorian redbrick mock-Tudor library ("styled to be in keeping with the private houses to be erected on the adjoining sites") was built in 1902.
It was a great period of library building in Hornsey, as the central building on Tottenham Lane and the Stroud Green Library had been erected in 1900, and plans for Muswell Hill awaited only development of the rest of the Station Estate on the spacious grounds at the top of the hill.

So there I was heading off in the direction of Highgate cemetary where I would be met.

The work that is taking place at Highgate involves shoring up the steep bank by the tube station's car park.
Cllr Featherstone and Highgate's Liberal Democrat councillors are keen to ensure that local groups such as the Highgate Society and Priory Gardens' Residents Association are present at the meeting so that TfL and the Council can be made aware of residents' strong views.
The meeting, to be held on 24th March, was requested by Lib Dem Transport Spokesperson for London Assembly, Lynne Featherstone after she received conflicting information from the various bodies working on the site, leading to concern at the lack of co-operation that was taking place.
