Ghana — Highlife in Low Times by Richard Byrne - The Globalist > > Global Music
Highlife, the signature music of Ghana, is a joyous and complex genre that has had a profound influence on African and world music over the last 70 years.
Yet, as highlife rode on its wave of success in the era of African independence, few could have predicted that the music of Ghana would eventually be held hostage to its turbulent politics.

Music of Ghana - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Highlife arose among the coastal regions of Ghana and, to a lesser extent Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria and other English-speaking West African colonies.
Highlife incorporated elements of swing, jazz, rock, ska and soukous, and saw its first inroads into the culture of its neighbors in West Africa and across the rest of the continent.
In the 1960s, dance highlife was more popular than guitar-band highlife; most of the guitar bands began using the electric guitar until a roots revival in the mid-1970s.

HighLife - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
HighLife is a cellular automaton similar to Conway's Game of Life.
It is a two-dimensional, two-state cellular automaton in the "Life family" and is described by the rule B36/S23; that is, a cell is born if it has 3 or 6 neighbors and survives if it has 2 or 3 neighbors.
Because the rules of HighLife and Conway's Life (rule B3/S23) are similar, many simple patterns in Conway's Life function identically in HighLife.
