The Blue Star Memorial Highway Program was begun by the New Jersey Council of Garden Clubs in 1944 with the planting of 8000 Dogwood trees as a living memorial to veterans of World War II.
In November of 1971 the Nassau Bay Garden Club held a ceremony dedicating the three miles of NASA Parkway between Texas Highway 3 and the entrance to the Manned Spacecraft Center as the Blue Star Memorial Highway.
The rededication of the Blue Star Memorial Marker honoring all veterans of the Armed Forces of the United States who have sacrificed to defend our freedom and to those who continue to do so took place on March 1, 2003, at 10:00 a.m., at the marker site near Nassau Bay City Hall.

"Lonely Highway Night" is the best contemporary country-rock road song since Son Volt's "Windfall."
