Highworth market had experienced a boom in 1915-1916 but after this time animals were rarely conveyed by rail, most farmers walking their cattle to and from market.
At Highworth passengers would probably be forbidden to board the train until shunting was completed as the passenger coaches might have to be moved several times while sorting the goods vehicles and there would be a danger of passenger injury caused by heavy shunts.
Highworth had a siding laid specifically for coal traffic that had a capacity of ten wagons and boasted a set of coalbunkers or staithes so beloved of UK railway modellers.

Demand soared as Swindon grew, and a larger workhouse was built in Stratton St Margaret in 1847, signalling the end of the Highworth one.
Highworth Building Company bought the house in the 1960s and converted it to three private homes, and in 1979 it was registered as a Grade 2 listed building.

 Stiles / Styles Genealogy and Family History
Highworth is five miles north east of Swindon and close to the Oxfordshire border.
The Court Rolls of Adam de Straton, a manor near Highworth, mention John and Henry Styele, alternatively given as de Steyel, de Steyele and de la Styele, as attending various court meetings in the 1270's and 1280's.
It is possible these were the ancestors of the Highworth Stiles.

There was a carnival atmosphere in Highworth, just outside Swindon, last weekend, as the town celebrated the culmination of a summer of festivities.
