	Higo Province - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Higo (肥後国; Higo no kuni) was an old province of Japan in the area that is today Kumamoto prefecture on the island of Kyushu.
		Higo bordered on Chikugo, Bungo, Hyuga, Osumi, and Satsuma.
		During the Muromachi period, Higo was held by the Kikuchi clan, but they were dispossessed during the Sengoku period, and the province was occupied by neighboring lords, including the Shimazu of Satsuma, until Toyotomi Hideyoshi invaded Kyushu and gave Higo to his retainers, first Sasa Narimasa and later Kato Kiyomasa.

		I notice that on a lot of swords with traditional higo style fittings, the tsuka is waisted a lot of the times.
		But when you do see a koshirae that is obviously Higo style you are talking about the typical rounded kashira and often the slightly tapered fuchi along with a slightly rounded horn kojiri.
		In a way the Bugei Dragonfly was somewhat "inspired" by Higo aesthetics with the brown silk ito, fl rayskin and fl saya.
