  Hijab.com » Symbol or Practice?
The Quran and Sunnah are clear that the Hijab is a required form of dress for Muslim women, and an expression of the principle of modesty from an Islamic perspective.
Hijab is a religious practice akin to attending Mass for a Catholic, wearing a habit for a nun, praying five times a day for a Muslim, or wearing a Kippah for a Jewish man.
If Hijab is defined as a practice, putting an end to it clearly violates the laws of countries like France, as well as international law, both of which guarantee the freedom of religion and religious expression and practice.

 Hijab: Suppression or Liberation
Adherence to the wearing of hijab is one of the major dilemmas that Muslim women face both in America and throughout the rest of the world.
When asked if the hijab was forced upon them, 98 percent of the fifteen Muslim women surveyed stated that it was not, that in fact they were wearing the hijab by their own free will.
Muslim women who conform to the hijab may be discouraged by their family members who consider this adaptation as yielding to a radical wing.

 Hijab
The hijab has in recent decades more and more come to be associated with Islamism, hence it is partly prohibited in some Muslim countries, like Tunisia and Turkey.
A slightly clearer command to wear the hijab comes in a passage from the hadiths, but even these do not concluslively imply a general obligation for a Muslim woman to cover her head, as it really only refers to the wives of Muhammad.
Hence it is possible that this aya does not require women to cover their hair or even their faces, but to wear the body garment in such a way that they cover and hide erotic parts of a women's body, such as her breasts.

There is nothing in hijab that restricts a woman's freedom-to express her views and opinion, to own property, to have an education and a career, or to choose a husband.
A woman without hijab is generally dealt with from the point of view that she is a human being, but also "through her femininity and through what she stirs up in men by her exposed body" (19).
Thus, hijab is a weapon and a barrier, not because women are weak, but because society is. It is a spiritual barrier, an empowerment, a guarantee that a woman will be judged by her inner spiritual beauty rather than her outer superficial appearance.

While hijab means "cover," "drape," or "partition;" the word khimar means veil covering the head, and the word litham or niqab means veil covering the lower face up to the eyes.
Firstly, the hijab was associated with two of the Qur'an's "clothing laws" imposed upon all Muslim females: "The mantle" verse of Q33:59 and the "modesty" verse of Q24:31.
On the one hand, the semantic association of domestic segregation (hijab) with garments to be worn in public (jilbab, khimar), resulted in the use of the term hijab for concealing garments that women wore outside of their houses.
