  Snowshoeing the Superior Hiking Trail
The most challenging portion of the hike was climbing up a hill to the lookout point which is marked on the map.
I would not recommend hiking the Superior Hiking Trail to Mic Mac Lake because heading back would be boring (seeing the same things again) and potentially dangerous (I would not consider hiking down the "drainpipe" when it's snow covered!).
Hike upstream along the Superior Hiking Trail to view some beautiful panoramas of the river and the woods, and then hike downstream on the river.

 Superior Hiking Trail
The Superior Hiking Trail (SHT) extends for approximately 200 miles from Duluth, MN to Grand Marais, MN which is near the Canadian border.
They are responsible for maintaining the trail and campsites; and have done the legwork necessary with the DNR and private landowners to get the trail approved, to map and build the trial and to get approval for crossing private lands, where necessary.
Their trail guide is informative, although hiking in the direction opposite to the trip description may lead to confusion in one or two spots.

 MAUI ISLAND HIKING TRAILS MAP
The trail itself is very rough for the first few miles and is closed to even the use of four-wheel drive vehicles as many end up stuck or damaged by the jagged rocks.
The trail again passes inland nearly a mile from the sea and goes straight across the point to a last small portion of older flow along the coast.
At the end of the trail is an old CCC camp and a three-way junction, the beginning point of both the Plum Trail and the Boundary Trail.

The Georgia Loop, "toughest hike in Georgia", is a 55-mile triangle of the BMT, the AT and the Duncan Ridge Trail.
In the Eastern Continental Trail; the 4400-plus mile route from Key West, Florida to Cape Gaspe, Quebec, Canada; the BMT connects the Pinhoti and Appalachian Trails.
As with most trail organizations, the BMTA is an all-volunteer, nonprofit group of folks who want to see the trail remain open and in good shape.
