Hikone Castle (彦根城; -jō) is the most famous historical site in Hikone, Shiga Prefecture, Japan.
Naokatsu's lands had been taken from him in the interval by the Tokugawa shogunate, and when his brother Naotake assumed control of the area around Omi Province, he was able to complete the castle by collecting stones from the former Sawayama castle.
Hikone Castle was designated a National Treasure by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in 1952.

Since I had the day off I decided to go to Hikone Castle in Hikone City, which is in Shiga prefecture, which is the prefecture to the east of Kyoto prefecture.
Hikone Castle is a "National Treasure" of Japan, and joins Inuyama, Himeji, and Matsumoto Castles as being the four oldest, original castles in Japan.
Hikone Castle is not as big as Inuyama Castle and there is no verdana at the top that you can walk around.

Lake Beewaco is the largest lake in Japan and Hikone is a cool little town on the Northern shore.
Hikone is also home to Hikone-Castle where some Shogun Lord lived back in the mists of time, so once we arrived in Hikone our first stop was the castle where we wandered around doing the obligitory culture thing.
