Cumorah - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Hill Cumorah is a place from the Book of Mormon where the Nephites were destroyed in a final battle with the Lamanites, and according to Joseph Smith, it was a place where many Nephite records and other artifacts were kept in a cave.
The name is also given to a hill in Upstate New York (the hill was created by a glacier) where Joseph Smith claimed he discovered the Gold Plates there, which contained the writings of the Book of Mormon.
There is some disagreement among LDS Historians about whether the Hill in New York state is the same as the place mentioned in the Book of Mormon, or if the hill was given the same name in order to honor it as the hiding place of the plates when Smith found them.

What gives the Hill Cumorah Pageant a twinge of the eerie is that it has been performed since 1937 on the very site where 14-year-old Joseph Smith purportedly discovered what was later to become known as the Book of Mormon.
Hill Cumorah itself is crucial to the story because Mormon religious history is believed to have been written on metal tablets by the prophet Mormon and hidden in a stone box by him around 400 A.D on this very hill.
Non-Mormon viewers may consider The Hill Cumorah Pageant little more than a well-dramatized fantasy, and may find the salt potatoes sold by local Lions and Rotarians more palatable.
