The house itself was built in the 1940's by a French actress named Michele Morgan.
The house, located at the end of a cul-de-sac, was more comfortable than the typical ostentatious mansions of Beverly Hills.
The lease was for one year and included, aside from the main house, with three bedrooms, 4.5 baths and the sleeping loft over the living room, the kidney-shaped pool just steps away from the master bedroom and a three car garage with a small apartment

DVD Review - House On Haunted Hill   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
For the most part, recent horror movies just could not convince with their Generation X approach, their overly obtrusive use of visual effects or even because it turned out that the films were a far cry from the genre after all.
While watching "House On Haunted Hill" for the first time in a long while I was witnessing a well-done adaptation of a previously done movie.
Much of the horror in the film actually stems from the suggestive visuals rather than open gore, and the almost surreal atmosphere of the house is nicely captured, leaving the viewer in the dark for the most part whether he actually witnesses events unfold, or figments of the characters’ imaginations.

House on Haunted Hill (1958) - The Bad Movie Report
Except for Lance, who tries to find a way out of the house, and merely locks himself in a hidden passageway, and Nora, who is driven out of her room by a ghostly Annabelle hovering outside her window.
She then encounters the mandatory spooky house organ playing itself, and the patented William Castle monster hand reaching around the door.
This is the key to my liking of House on Haunted Hill, and not simply the talk of severed heads, and that damned skeleton that gave me nightmares as a child - it's the fact that this movie was made with children in mind.

House Minority Leader Richard A. Gephardt (D-Mo.) first learned from a reporter about yesterday's classified briefing for congressional leaders on the contingency plans, his aides said.
The White House also disputed lawmakers' claims that they had not been advised of the administration's contingency plans, reported last week in The Washington Post, involving scores of career government officials taking rotations in underground bunkers outside of Washington.
The White House released documents with the signatures of Jeri Thomson, the secretary of the Senate, and Alfonso Lenhardt, the Senate sergeant at arms, indicating they had received a security briefing.

Republicans on the Hill are so frustrated with the White House that when Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) criticized the administration at a House GOP meeting last week, the caucus burst into applause.
When, for example, the House passed a bill in March raising penalties for violence against pregnant woman, the White House dimished the political impact by trumping it with the announcement that it would support a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, even though key House leaders were not on board.
The GOP House leadership is also now publicly playing down its differences with the White House, while acknowledging that relations are not yet smooth.

JoBlo reviews the movie "The House on Haunted Hill"
The aftermath, where you saw a trail of blood leading up the wall and disappearing in the ceiling while someone commented, "The house got her" or something like that, was also pretty freaky.
Also, the bit with Eddy(?) disappearing, then his body double appearing wordlessly and walking zombie-like and immersing himself in a vat of blood "big as a Buick" (interesting, I just wonder how a vat of blood stays liquid and red after 50-plus years??) was a little unnerving.
House on Haunted Hill does have its share of creepy moments, but it also has a lame script, filled with even more lame and uninteresting characters.

Domestic architecture, in particular, owes a considerable amount to this Modernist legacy which was imported to LA from the shores of Europe by a generation of exiles in the 30s (amongst whom were the famed architects Richard Neutra and Rudolph Schindler and their younger contemporaries Raphael Soriano, Gregory Ain and Harwell Harris).
