Mount Arafat - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mount Arafat (sometimes known as Mount Arafah) (Arabic: جبل عرفات; transliterated: Jabal 'Arafat) is a granite hill east of Mecca.
The hill is the place the Prophet Muhammad delivered The Farewell Sermon to the Muslims who had accompanied him for the Hajj towards the end of his life.
Muslims believe the Prophet Adam and his wife Eve were reunited on the hill and forgiven by Allah after 200 years of separation on account of their disobedience in deference to the suggestion of Satan.

Yasser Arafat - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Arafat's younger brother Dr. Fathi Arafat is rumored to have founded the Palestinian Red Crescent and was involved in the humanitarian aspect of the conflict.
Arafat's long personal and political survival was taken by most Western commentators as a sign of his mastery of asymmetric warfare and his skill as a tactician, given the extremely dangerous nature of politics of the Middle East and the frequency of assassinations.
Arafat's ability to adapt to new tactical and political situations, was perhaps exemplified by the rise of the Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad organizations, Islamist groups espousing rejectionist opposition to Israel and employing new tactics such as suicide bombing, often intentionally targeting non-military targets, such as malls and movie theaters, to increase the psychological damage.

Arafat understood that the Mufti's battle against any Jewish settlement in "Palestine," founded solely on Islamic concepts, was not wholly palatable to the non-Islamic world.
Arafat surmised that a more appealing strategy would be in dressing the struggle in the garb of national liberation for the Palestinian people.
Arafat's struggle, from its inception, is the struggle against Jewish presence in the Land of Israel and was at no time intended to be a specifically Palestinian struggle, nor was it ever meant to revolve around a mere Palestinian/Israeli confrontation.

 In Memoriam Yasser Arafat (1929-2004)
YASSER ARAFAT, chairman of al-Fatah and the Palestine Liberation Organization and elected president of the Palestinian Authority, died in Paris Nov. 11 from complications stemming from a blood disorder at the age of 75.
Arafat did not return alone, but rather was accompanied by security forces, politicians, wheelers and dealers, and other hangers-on whose political styles and personal values frequently clashed with those of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza who had just waged a momentous and largely nonviolent intifada from 1987 to 1993.
Arafat’s advisers, jealous of her new place in his life, were further alienated when she bravely spoke out against corruption and nepotism in the inner circle.

CAMERA: Yasir Arafat's Timeline of Terror
A Knight-Ridder/Tribune timeline of Arafat's life that appeared in Newsday only mentions terror once, in 2001: “Blamed for not controlling terrorist attacks on Israel by Hamas, other radicals.” Typical of many of the flawed timelines, it implies only that Arafat failed to control terror, not that he was actively involved in funding and supporting it.
In order to report on Arafat's history objectively, one must include his decades-long involvement in terror, his goal of destroying Israel, and his siphoning of hundreds of millions of dollars from money donated to help the Palestinian people that went instead into his own private accounts.
Yasir Arafat is known to many as the “father of modern terrorism.” Below is a timeline of some of the key events of his life and terrorist acts with which he was associated.

MOUNT ARAFAT, Saudi Arabia (AP) — More than 2 million pilgrims headed to Mount Arafat outside Mecca on Sunday in the culmination of the hajj, an emotional ritual that retraces the last journey of Islam's seventh century Prophet Muhammad.
The Day of Arafat is the climax of the hajj, and is believed to symbolize the day of judgment, when Islam says the dead will rise and every person will stand before God to answer for his deeds.
Usually, pilgrims stay and pray on Arafat from noon until after sunset, then head for the nearby plain of Muzdalifah to collect pebbles for the symbolic ritual of "stoning the devil" in Mina on Monday.
