Something Old, Nothing New: WB Animation: "Hillbilly Hare"
"Hillbilly Hare" is one of the all-time great Bugs Bunny cartoons, culminating in perhaps the funniest sustained sequence in any cartoon: the three-minute sequence where Bugs poses as a square-dance caller and leads two hapless hillbilly brothers through a sadistic square dance ("Whop him low and whop him high/Stick your finger in his eye").
The scene with the second hillbilly (voiced by John T. Smith is by John Carey; the scene also seems pretty close to McKimson's own preferences in terms of drawings and poses, but is a little looser than Chuck McKimson's:
Most of the next scene with the hillbillies falling for Bugs in drag is Phil DeLara, though Greg says that one close-up shot of Bugs in drag may be Chuck McKimson.

Bugs Bunny - Don Markstein's Toonopedia
Bugs Bunny's origin was as a goofy antagonist for Porky Pig in the Warner Bros. cartoon Porky's Hare Hunt (1938), directed by Cal Dalton and Ben "Bugs" Hardaway, for whom the hare is named.
Plotwise, it was virtually a repeat of the previous year's Daffy Duck intro, Porky's Duck Hunt, Back then, the Bunny was much smaller and more rabbit-like, and completely white — but in wit, resourcefulness, and the sheer relish with which he demolished his antagonist, he very much resembled his later self.
Bugs evolved in a generally Bugs-like direction for a couple of years, emerging fully-developed in the Oscar-nominated A Wild Hare (1940), directed by Tex Avery.

Robert McKimson - Animation Show Forums
Those are the people McKimson is always going to be compared to, and he's unfortunately going to fall short in most critical circles and I would say among most animation fans that have actually seen more than 3 or 4 Bugs Bunny shorts.
Tedd Pierce did some good stuff for McKimson ("Hillbilly Hare"), but I think his style "meshed" better with Jones or Freleng (McKimson's cartoons improved for a few months when Pierce was out and McKimson worked with Sid Marcus instead).
McKimson also kept alive the tradition of pop-culture references and parodies at a time when most other cartoon directors were striving to be "timeless." And as to influence, "Rabbit's Kin" was an enormous influence on Tiny Toons with its theme of older cartoon stars teaching younger cartoon characters the art of cartoon violence.
