  Hiller Aircraft - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hiller Aircraft Company was founded by Stanley Hiller in 1942 to develop helicopters.
It was renamed Hiller Helicopters in 1948, and purchased by Fairchild in 1964.
Stanley Hiller donated money and a number of aircraft to form the Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos, California, which opened in 1998.

Stanley Hiller Jr., one of the world’s principal developers of vertical flight and the founder of the Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos died Thursday at his Atherton home from complications associated with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Hiller was born Nov. 15, 1924 in San Francisco to the late Stanley Hiller Sr.
The Hiller Aviation Museum is an institution of education and research and has a goal to stimulate and engage our communities to discover the past, celebrate the present, and imagine the future of greater aviation with a focus on unique technological innovations and innovators.

The director of the Federal Aviation Administration, Najeeb Halaby, decided that the Concorde was too far ahead in development to bother building a direct competitor, and instead selected a much more advanced standard as their baseline.
The mockup was disassembled and shipped to Florida, where it sat in a scrapyard for 19 years before it was purchased and partially reassembled for display at the Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos, California.

Hiller first became interested in aviation at age 10, when he learned to fly an airplane by sitting in his father’s lap.
In 1944, Hiller completed the first successful helicopter flight in the western United States, when he flew his coaxial XH-44 “Hiller-Copter.” He became the youngest person ever to receive the Fawcett Aviation Award for major contributions to the advancement of aviation.
In 2002, Hiller was awarded the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum Trophy for Lifetime Achievement for his “distinguished career as a leader in aviation innovation and excellence.” That same year, he was also awarded the San Francisco Aeronautical Society’s Medal of Achievement.
