Hillhouse is a council-built housing estate in the west of Hamilton district, in South Lanarkshire, Scotland.
Its civic amenities include: Udston Primary school and St Ninian's (Roman Catholic) primary school, a civic centre with library, two churches (Church of Scotland and Roman Catholic) and the Jock Stein Sports Centre and playing fields.
In 1997, Hillhouse was chosen as the pilot setting for the Child Safety Initiative, a Strathclyde Police scheme to tackle the area's perceived high crime level, specifically amongst youths.

This connection dates from the 16th century when the title Duc de Châtellerault was conferred on James Hamilton, 2nd Earl of Arran.
Undermining was said to be the reason the Hamilton Palace was demolished in 1921 (though some local historians believe it was for financial reasons).

A survey of 981 school children in the Hamilton area (aged 12 to 15) found that 91% were aware of the CSI and 40% approved of it compared to 37% who disapproved.
Due to the small number of children who were the victims of crime or road traffic accidents in the 6 month period prior to and during the period covered by the CSI, it was not possible to assess the impact of the Initiative on such incidents.
It was generally believed that crime in Hillhouse was caused by a small number of older young people who tended to be heavy drinkers or drug users and who were, for the mostpart, unemployed.
