The Hillman Motor Car Company would probably have retired with William Hillman who, in 1913 was already aged 65 if it had not been for the arrival of A J Dawson as it's designer.
The Hillman Minx was continually improved with 4-speed gearbox and a "freewheel" option in 1934, (there was even a model called the "Melody" which featured a wireless as standard equipment), followed by an all-synchromesh gearbox in 1935.
The Hillman engine was gradually increased to 1.5-litres in 1959, 1,592cc in 1962 as the Super Minx and again in 1966 to 1,725cc with five main bearings.

This was the monocoque Minx announced in September 1939, manufactured in their thousands throughout the war and ready in 1945 for immediate civilian production, the engine still the same block but now producing 35bhp at 4,100 rpm.
At first fitted with the original 22-year-old Minx engine bored out to 1,265cc to give a pathetic extra 2.5bhp, the Californian was as gutless a wonder as the Aero Minx had been and was, like it, a passenger's weight heavier than the four-door family saloon.
The last Minx of all was the model of 1967-70, a downmarket and under-powered version of the awful Hillman Hunter.

Hillman Minx - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Hillman Minx was a series of family-sized cars produced under the Hillman marque by the Rootes Group between 1932 and 1970.
The final version of the Minx was the "Arrow" or "New Minx" launched in 1967, which was essentially a basic version of the Hillman Hunter in saloon and estate forms, with a 1496cc engine.
Throughout the life of the Minx there was usually an estate version, and for some time there was also a short-wheelbase estate, the Hillman Husky, and additionally a van derivative of that, known as the Commer Cob.

 Hillman Minx - 4Car Feature - from Channel 4
The Hillman Minx was a staple British saloon for decades, and about as exciting as a school meal.
The Minx was quite an export king too, travelling to Africa, the United States, New Zealand and Australia in surprisingly large numbers.
Here though, is an illustrated guide to the Minx from the mid '50s - when its styling turned a little fancy, Doris - to the late '70s, when it died of old age, badged as a Hunter.

 Series Minx
In fact, the Minx was not the first of the Rootes cars to use the Audax design.
Hillman had been in existence for about 50 years at this time, and the first Hillman Minx had appeared 25 years before, in the 1931/32 season, so when Rootes introduced changes to the Series I in August 1957, cars in the new range were named the 'Jubilee' models.
This was not the fully automatic system used on later Series Minxes, as the standard 4-speed gearbox was used, and the clutch operated by pressing on the end of the gear stick.

autoclassic.com :: the history of classic cars : 1935 Hillman Minx
The Hillman Minx of 1935–39 was one of them.
The original, and all-new Minx was previewed in 1931, and went on sale in 1932, but it was the second-generation Minx (the ‘Minx Magnificent’, as its bonnet badge advertised) which finally established the type.
Mechanically it was conventional, with a separate chassis, beam-axle front and rear suspensions, and a side-valve engine, but there was interest in the detail, and it may be significant that both Bill Heynes (later legendary at Jaguar) and Alec Issigonis (of Mini fame) were both employed at Rootes at this time.

The next Minx update arrived in 1961, although this the Series IIIC would stay in production until 1963.
