Topic: Hilum

XI. Splanchnology. 1F. The Chromaphil and Cortical Systems. Gray, Henry. 1918. Anatomy of the Human Body.
The upper part of the latter surface is devoid of peritoneum, and is in relation with the bare area of the liver near its lower and medial angle, while its inferior portion is covered by peritoneum, reflected onto it from the inferior layer of the coronary ligament; occasionally the duodenum overlaps the inferior portion.
On the anterior surface, near its lower end, is a furrow or hilum, directed downward and forward, from which the suprarenal vein emerges.
The nerves are exceedingly numerous, and are derived from the celiac and renal plexuses, and, according to Bergmann, from the phrenic and vagus nerves.

Hilum in the mathematical center; lamellae always equal at two corresponding diametrically opposite points.
When the grain is free both hilum and grain are oval to lanceolate-oval; occasionally kidney-shaped or somewhat curved; when on end they appear circular or somewhat compressed (Plate 6, Phaseolus and Doliches).
Hilum usually more or less removed from the mathematical center of the grain; lamellae coarsest and finest at opposite ends of the grain, respectively.

Conidia are straight, curved or slightly bent, ellipsoidal to fusiform and are formed apically through a pore (poroconidia) on a sympodially elongating geniculate conidiophore.
Conidia have a strongly protruding, truncate hilum and the septum above the hilum is usually thickened and dark.
The hilum is defined as "a scar on a conidium at the point of attachment to the conidiophore".

Purpose: To evaluate whether the lymphadenopathy below the renal hilum on the abdominal CT could be useful for differentiation between gastric adenocarcinoma and gastric lymphoma.
Results: The lymphadenopathy below the renal hilum was found in 12 cases of gastric adenocarcinomas(12/2210, 0.54%) and 6 cases of gastric lymphomas(6/23, 23%).
Consequently the presence of lymphadenopathy below the renal hilum was not sensitive in differentiation between gastric adenocarcinoma and lymphoma, but homogeneous contrast enhancement of lymphadenopathy was favorable finding for gastric lymphoma.
