The two-day conference of the forest and environment ministers of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttaranchal, West Bengal, Sikkim, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland concluded in Dehradun on Tuesday.
The idea to float such a forum was suggested by Uttaranchal chief minister ND Tiwari, who chaired the meeting, to enable the states to share their experiences on striking a balance between the demands for preserving their ecology and the need for development.
