Himring - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Hill of Himring was the highest hill of Himring on which was the captital of Maedhros, eldest of the Sons of Fëanor, was located.
It remained for centuries, until the Nirnaeth Arnoediad; it is not mentioned after that in The Silmarillion as published, but the impression given is that it was forsaken, as the sons of Fëanor would no longer have had the strength to man it, had they chosen to.
It is one of several high points in Beleriand to survive as islands and the easiest to locate, as it appears on most maps of Third Age Middle-earth.

The Barrow-Downs Discussion Forum - Himling And Himring
I notice that it is in roughly the same place as the Hill of Himring, fortress of Maedhros.
I know that, but what confuses me is that Himling is NEVER mentioned, or connected to Himring, in any Tolkien writing.
Himling is an earlier form of Himring, used in the pre-LotR versions of Silmarillion.

In addition, fulfilling a prophecy, the graves of Turin Turambar and Morwen[?] survived as the island Tol Morwen.
Likewise part of Dorthonion became Tol Fuin, and the Hill of Himring[?] became the island of Himling.
All of these together were known as the Western Isles.

Alas, Maedhros marched forth upon Morgoth in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, the Battle of Unnumbered Tears; and after he was betrayed and the battle lost, he fled to Ossiriand, leaving Himring empty and desolate behind him, its walls and gate wrecked by Maedhros’ own catapults to stop the Dark Lord from making use of it.
They are planning to sail to the ruins of Maedhros’ old fortress at the isle of Himling, paying a final visit to their former home before they sail West.
The purpose of the story is to: Sail to Himling, explore the ruins of Himring, and sail back to the Grey Havens to embark with the Ringbearers into the West.

The mistaken inclusion of Rhudaur alone has been corrected by the addition of Cardolan and Arthedain, and I have shown the little island of Himling off the far north-western coast, which appears on one of my father's sketch-maps and on my own first draft.
Himling was the earlier form of Himring (the great hill on which Maedhros son of Feanor had his fortress in The Silmarillion), and though the fact is nowhere referred to it is clear that Himring's top rose above the waters that covered drowned Beleriand.

This is of great importance to me as a Tolkien fan, since these islands are all that is left of Beleriand,(excluding Lindon being part of Ossiriand) and in fact have some history to them.
O please!(kinda like linus trying to get his blancket back, he, he) All you guys have to say is yea, or nay to my first question.
Therefore, Himling will be included in Middle-Earth Online, but Tol Fuin and Tol Morwen will not.

Also it was also Christopher Tolkien's hypothesis (in which I concur) that Tol Fuin, the larger island to the west of Himling, was the highest part of Taur-nu-Fuin (Dorthonion).
This is written at the end of the Introduction to UT which I am just now reading for the first time; however, I believe I also made that same claim to Ungoliant last summer when we were comparing maps.
