According to Hinchinbrooke fire chief Douglas Grant the fire was burning in the roof and flames were coming from under the eaves when the firemen arrived on the scene.
The garage sustained damage to the roof and rafters and one wall of the house was also damaged.
There was no damage inside the house and the Patenaude family was able to spend the rest of the night there.

The Oso District Central Frontenac Fire Department was called to a house fire at the home of Stanley and Ella Mae Richardson, south of Sharbot Lake on Road #38, near the Tryon Road.
A tanker and ten men from the Hinchinbrooke District Fire Department assisted the Oso District Fire Department.
The efforts of the fire departments were centred on successfully saving two outbuildings which were close to the burning house.
