HAL Airport or Hindustan Airport (IATA: BLR, ICAO: VOBG) is the domestic and international airport for the city of Bangalore, India.
The airport is maintained by Hindustan Aeronautics which uses it to test and develop aircraft for the Indian Armed Forces.
Originally set up by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) mainly for defence purposes, operations were extended for domestic commercial flights in the 1980s while the airport started to serve international destinations in 1997.

HAL is the prime contractor for the $626 million MiG-21 upgrade programme that, besides the Russian, includes French and Israeli avionics and weapons manufacturers and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
The remaining 28 MiG-27s, HAL officials said, would be upgraded at the rate of one a month under the $133 million service life-extension programme signed in mid-2001.

HAL expects to net over $4 billion (Rs.18,800 crores) from the sale of the fighter to the armed forces over the next 12 to 14 years.
HAL has a letter of intent for 300 of these choppers from the Union government and its agencies and hopes to deliver eight helicopters in 2001 (for the Army, IAF, Navy, Coast Guard and civil markets), 16 in 2002 and 24 annually thereafter.
