The Bogenschneider family is from Pomerania (from Slavic po, "along"; morze, "sea"), which was a Prussian province on the Baltic Sea situated on both banks of the River Oder, stretching from Stralsund on the west to Stolp on the east.
The area west of the Oder was known as Hither Pomerania (Vorpommern), and the area east of the Oder was Farther Pomerania (Hinterpommern).
The area of former Hinterpommern is now part of the voivodeship Zachodnio-Omorskie (province of West Pomerania) with its capital Szczecin (formerly Stettin) and the voivodeship Pomorskie (Pomerania) with its capital Gdansk (formerly Danzig).

In 1945, Stettin and all of Hinterpommern were given to Poland and the two million German inhabitants, including all our cousins who had remained in Germany, were driven or fled from their homeland.
Hinterpommern and Stettin (now called Szczecin) became part of Poland and all of the Germans fled or were expelled from their country.
Conditions in Hinterpommern began to change for the better in the mid 18th century.

After World War II, the Potsdam Conference in 1945 transferred to Polish jurisdiction the area east of the Oder River (former Hinterpommern), and a small part west of the Oder including the former Pomeranian capital city Stettin (Szczecin), the peninsula Wollin, and the eastern part of the peninsula Usedom with the city of Swinemünde.
The former Hinterpommern today forms two of the 16 voivodeships (provinces) of Poland: Zachodnio-Omorskie (province of West Pomerania) with Szczecin (formerly Stettin) as its capital city and Pomorskie (Pomerania) with Gdansk (formerly Danzig) as its capital.
The balance of the Pommern area west of the Oder was designated as part of Mecklenburg and thus a part of the Soviet zone of occupation.

Kreis Regenwalde, established about 1809, was a part of HinterPommern.
Regenwalde, along with most all of HinterPommern, was devastated during World War II and at the end of the war was given to Poland.

Hello Marlo Hinterpommern is the Eastern half of Pommerania and is now mostly in Poland.
If you do a quick websearch using Hinterpommern map as your keyword, you will get several sites with maps that show the exact division and the various smaller districts.
